There was so much to see in Kyoto and you need a few days at least. It was the loveliest and most interesting city in Japan. We spent 6 days in Kyoto including one day in Osaka, which was perfect. You can get everything you are looking for: a lot of touristic objects, nice food, convenient public transport, shopping, but also spiritual experiences if you are open and looking for it. We had a short trip, arriving lunchtime one day and leaving late afternoon the next day. We visitied the Fushimi Inari Shrine the first afternoon and had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. The next morning we went early to the Kiyomizu-dera Temple by bus and then to the Kyoto Railway Museum. I love Kyoto. Have been several times. One does not need to see all the highlights. This city is so rich in sights, that you just need to walk around. Higashiyama is the best place to just wander.
