FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilization, Cairo is a vast metropolis centered around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including finds from Tutankhamen's tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to the 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk (remember to haggle). The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you need a break from cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodations, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

Cairo was definitely one for the books.

Cairo was definitely one for the books. I stayed at Holy Sheet Plus multiple times during my trip, and honestly, that place made the whole experience smoother. From airport pickups to helping plan multi-city tours (including a Nile cruise!), the staff were always on point—shoutout to the team that runs it like clockwork. Favorite places? Definitely the Egyptian Museum, Tahrir Square, and just wandering around Old Cairo. That area really gives you a feel for everyday local life—busy, a little chaotic, but full of character. Eating spots? The rooftop lounge at Holy Sheet Plus had surprisingly good traditional food and fresh juice, and the prices were fair—no tourist rip-off vibes. That said, Cairo’s street food is also a must-try if you're up for some adventure. Getting around? It’s a mix. Ride-share apps can be hit or miss, especially near airports or crowded spots, so I’d recommend booking pickups and longer trips through your accommodation. The bus station near Tahrir Square is handy if you're heading to other cities. Solo travel? Totally doable. Cairo might seem hectic at first, but once you find your rhythm, it’s awesome. I met people at the hostel, joined some small group tours, and honestly just enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere. My advice? Lower your expectations a bit, don’t sweat the weird details (like beds being too high or Wi-Fi dropping for a second), and focus on the little wins—sunshine, street cats, good food, and those moments when everything just clicks. That’s how you enjoy Cairo (or anywhere, really).

    Wow where do i start.

Wow where do i start. As two female travellers, many wanted us about the possible dangers of Egypt so we came feeling a bit cautious. After the first night we realised it was not what people say it is, everyone there was so kind, friendly, and fun. The tour guides we had were amazing and assured us Egypt was super safe, we ended up walking the streets, not just the main ones, and not once felt unwelcome or unsafe. People would say welcome to us as we walked past (we clearly look like tourists lol) and it wasn’t that they were trying to sell us something, it was purely out of their hearts. People helped us with directions, just chatting, and everything in between. The food was great, the vibes were amazing, the views were priceless and the culture was so rich! For example we went on a short cruise of the river nile and we all were dancing and laughing together, even though i usually am shy. I genuinely could not recommend Cairo enough. Both my friend and I were so upset leaving because even though we weren’t there long we made so many connections and felt at home. I will be returning one day! If you are thinking about travelling, make sure to go to Cairo and i reccomend at least 4 days there with tours and guides. We spent 3 nights, two full days, and we could of stayed forever. We still had so much more we wanted to do.

The pyramids are a great experience, the new museum and Sakkara trip as well. But the culture is not good, people asking money all the time and trying to confuse you into spending more. Four days is enough to see all the touristic places and go somewhere else where you can peacefully walk down the streets.

Some people are good and most are scammers, unfortunately, when they see you as a non-Egyptian, they ask you to beg, terrible exploitation, many there is no government control over the tourism sector in Egypt, fraud, many the country's situation is not good, they like to exploit you with the simplest thing, and this reflects on the tourism level in Egypt and leads to a collapsed economy, unfortunately thanks …..

I liked the city which is great, in fact there are more than one city.... Museums and hystorical sights are fenomenal, people are friendly, maybe a bit too in favour of money, so every deal should be confirmed with taxi drivers and shop keepers...

Cairo is a messy dirty nightmare with people trying to scam you left right and center! Ignore everything, pay the taxi drivers an agreed amount and don't let them take you anywhere you didn't plan to - they tend to take you to their mates shops where they guilt you in to spending money on weird things you don't want. HOWEVER don't miss it, the pyramids and museums are phenominal, it's just getting there that's hard work. If you are easily over stimulated don't visit the market.

Overall the location was great right next to the airport and it was clean but what really made me leave with a sour note is that some of the staff after helping carry the bags to standing waiting for a tip. And when you give them Egyptian pounds the face that they give you as if they were expecting Dollars and not even saying thank you. Just standing there looking at the tip and looking at you. Its not befitting of a 5 star hotel to have this kind of culture. Because of this i’m not going back there again. Absolute disgrace.

It is close to the airport and I took it as I only went to the hotel to just sleep some hours. The receptionist were the best ones I met in Egypt. I asked to get a taxi early in the morning and this was the only hotel from all I visited in Egypt that told me the real price I had to pay (maximum 80 egyptian pounds), and only for it they deserve the best comment from my part. Thanks a lot.

She even went an extra mile to pick my partner from the airport at 3 am. We had a room with pyramids view and the sunset truly was a cherry on the cake. The highlight of the hotel was the breakfast which was tailor made egyptian style!
