Biarritz has long enjoyed a reputation for glamour and monied high-class living. Many of the shops certainly cater for this sort of visitor, but there were plenty of what might be termed 'ordinary' tourists, who could enjoy the stunning vistas and beautiful locations along the coast. Don't miss the Port Des Pecheurs. It is very easy to achieve a day trip to San Jean De Luz by using the (exceptionally cheap and easy to use) local bus service (Txik Txak) that operates in the region. The town never felt overrun, nor underused. The beaches are very clean and well managed. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, with prices for every pocket. Also, the footprint of Biarritz is pretty compact so that those without mobility issues are able to explore and spend time in the well-ordered shopping locations, the public gardens and the cafes and restaurants. A special mention for the beautifully turned out (covered) market: well worth a visit and a stop for coffee, pastries or crepes. Finally, the ocean creates great conditions for surfing, an activity clearly enjoyed by the locals as well as visitors.
Sad to say, most of the day was lost, due to the fact of gross neglect from the hosts/proprietors of our accommodation. However, we had a great evening with friends, old and new, at L'Etoile de Mer, Avenue des Dauphins, Chambre d'Amour, 64600 Anglet, France. Food and service was fantastic!
The photos do not show the very smart bathroom just modernised. There is also mention of a bunk bed which is wrong. There are double beds in the two bedrooms, and in the lounge a pull out double bed/settee. Lots of places round about to visit. Would be a good place to stay if driving from the north of France to Spain. Very good golf course.
A friendly and inviting city, great food and drink, and people. Something for everyone. One thing to note, I would avoid visiting in December, it really rains every day. Stay in Bayonne, Visit the beaches in Tarnos, Ondres, or if you like a bigger crowd, Biarritz. Summer is the season to go here. Early fall is nice too. Good base location to see the Pyrenees, and the beaches.
Good and varied beaches, decent variety of shopping experiences including the excellent market, good selection of eating options, plenty of character to the town/port. Also good for rugby and surfing fans!
Anglet is close by to Biarritz & Bayonne, I like the quieter area, there is a coastal path/ promenade with bars restaurants dotted along it with beautiful sandy beaches. We stayed in Anglet last year for a short break on our way to Spain. I can't comment to much on Anglet town centre although it looked pleasant enough with shops restaurants etc when driving through. It is a lovely area, Bayonne is well worth a visit, as is Biarritz - if you can find a parking space in the Summer as Biarritz is very busy.
