Podere Novo feels very remote and like stepping back in time, but has all mod cons, including Wi-Fi and brilliant air conditioning. We were in Boccaccio on the ground floor, which has a little seating area outside at the front, and a very spacious living room. It’s a bit dark inside when you’re cooking but there is everything you need in the kitchen area. Outside there’s a lovely pool area, also a barbecue area with sink and vending machine although we didn’t use those. Sitting by the pool in the evening is bliss, Giorgio has a couple of very placid dogs, there’s at least one cat who seemed to live in a flowerbed, there are what look like domesticated rabbits hopping around in the distance, and birds (Swifts? Swallows? I don’t know) swooping down to take a drink from the pool. Really idyllic. In the day there are unfortunately several little building sites audible in the distance but hopefully they’ll be finished soon as the cranes also spoil what is a spectacular view. Initially the apartment was very quiet but later we realized you can hear the neighbours, maybe take a fan or something to make sure you have background noise in case the kids next door are early risers. The beds are very comfortable and bedding and towels pristine clean. Bibbona itself has some little shops and lots of restaurants although if you’re arriving on a Saturday night try and book ahead as we couldn’t get in anywhere, thank goodness for the grocers and our kitchen. It’s easily walkable, about 20 mins at a slow amble, but take a torch at night as there’s no pavement. The tower opposite is a wine bar in the evenings and is an amazing place to sit and watch the sunset. Giorgio is helpful and very friendly, I would have loved some longer chats but there’s only so much you can do with a translation app and my very poor Italian! Watching him be trailed around by his helpful little grandson (I assume) was a delight. Overall an amazing place to live and visit.
