Extreme sports holidays for the Winter X Games

If you’re not already familiar with the Winter X Games, it’s a global gathering of the world’s finest extreme sports athletes.

And the next one is coming up soon at Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado, from January 26 - 29, 2017. For four days, athletes and spectators will come together to immerse themselves in action sports, live music, and festival vibes.

But even if you can’t make the real deal, you can enjoy your own extreme sports holiday at one of these top-rated destinations for skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling.

Skiing

Arc 2000, Rhône-Alpes, France

Of the four sites that make up the world-famous Les Arc ski resort, Arc 2000 is the largest, with an elevation of 6889 feet. It also has access to the Peisey-Vallandry ski resort, so offers a combined 425 km of slopes to shred.

Zürs am Arlberg, Vorarlberg, Austria

Zürs am Arlberg has 305 km of ski runs and 200 km of high Alpine deep powder runs. Skiers also have the unique opportunity to travel The White Ring, a ski circuit that spans 22 km and changes 18,044 feet in elevation.

Snowboarding

Kutchan, Hokkaido, Japan

It’s not uncommon for Kutchan to see upwards of 32 feet of snowfall each winter and it’s close to the treasured Niseko powder region, making it one of the most popular snowboarding destinations in Japan.

Berridale, New South Wales, Australia

Deep in the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales, keen snowboarders will delight at the little town of Berridale. Plentiful fresh powder and jaw-dropping jumps mean endless extreme sports entertainment.

Snowmobiling

Eagle River, Wisconsin, USA

Eagle River, Wisconsin, has a staggering 804 km of trails that wind through forests and across frozen lakes. Each year, thousands of snowmobilers head to the town to enjoy some time on the trails or to compete in the Eagle River World Championship Snowmobile Derby.

Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada
