Sueño Celeste B&B Exceptional 9.5 Such a warm reception including a gift to celebrate our honeymoon and advice on driving routes and things to do. Plus an incredible breakfast overlooking the gardens and the very busy bird table!
Celeste Mountain Lodge Wonderful 9.1 The staff, the accommodations, the food, the mountain and trails - all first class.
Cataratas Bijagua Lodge Good 7.9 The personable owners, the privacy of the cabin, the beautiful gardens and walkway were all exquisite!!! Loved the trail around the property and tours they arranged.
Tenorio Lodge Excellent 8.9 I can't say enough about the beauty and attention to detail of Tenorio Lodge. The service was impeccable, the room zen-like and elegant, the food simple but delicious, and the surroundings of lush rainforest gardens simply sublime. We had an awesome day of hiking at the Tenorio Volcano National Reserve and fell in love with the Rio Celeste Waterfalls and lagoon. It may be "low season" but the cool temperatures and the rain actually made for a more delicious experience. We will be back!
Casitas Tenorio Wonderful 9 Well where do I start? If B&B owners should be able to win medals, Pip and Donald would win the gold one. Their 3 rooms are all 3 fantastic. Two are already finished for quite a while, the third is almost ready. Pip is from Australia and Donald is from Costa Rica. They met a long time ago when Pip was doing volunteer work there. Donald his brother Anthony and their mother all work at Casitas Tenorio. Pip and Donald have 2 cute princesses. Their daughters like to wear princess dresses -and why shouldn't they in a rainforest? When we were there, Pip's parents were visiting from Australia. So we had some lovely times chatting with them and the 2 other guest in the morning during breakfast. Donald and Pip are true farmers. Especially Donald who is so devoted to his grounds. The B&B is just a (small) part of their daily activities. Donald goes up every morning at 5am to milk the cows. They make also delicious cheese (served with breakfast) from their milk. They have many many fruit and vegetable plants on their enormous property. Anthony walked us around one morning. We loved talking to him, like his brother he knows every plant, bird and animal. The common social area overlooks a beautiful wild garden. Every time when we sat down there we saw a toucan, coatimundi, kinkajou, grey squirrels (very naughty steeling bananas all the time) and so so many other birds that I have never heard of. The bungalows are a true delight and so clean and practical. They though of every detail. My boyfriend is an architect, so we pay attention to this. Pip gave us rain poncho's (the weather was the only negative thing, but ...hey it is the rainforest). She also gave my warmer clothes (because I only had one sweater taken from home). Another great gesture was a tasteful lunch she offered to us, because there was some delicious food left over after a farmers reunion in their social area. So, go there people.

    • Beautiful garden grounds with adorable little bungalows/cabins. Close to rio Celeste entrance.

    • We just returned from Sueño. We had no car, and where there on Christmas. The owners helped us get a cab, including riding in the back of a pickup to the Tonorio park XMas Eve. They gave accurate directions, pointing us to a road less traveled, where we did indeed see Toucans, as advised. Also an aardvark on a tree, unexpectedly. For nature-lovers who value a quality, quiet experience, Sueño Celeste is perfect.
