Cabina Gan Eden - Walking distance from river, hotel in Portalón

Cabina Gan Eden - Walking distance from river is located in Portalón, just 21 miles from Manuel Antonio National Park and 18 miles from Marina Pez Vela.

The hosts were welcoming warm, and helpful. The path to the house is on a hillside slope with dense jungle throughout. Vanilla vines and flowers. Only the sounds of birds. The front porch has a hammock and sofa where I sketched and Jean napped. The interior space is simple and nicely functional. The views from the large bedroom windows put us up and into the beautiful jungle canopy. A highlight was the warm swim at the nearby waterfall. We were always going up or down. Be careful of your footing.

Dreamy Contentment, hotel in Portalón

With a private beach area and Dreamy Contentment has accommodations with free WiFi.

The Beach was one of the nicest we experienced in Costa Rica, soft black volcanic sand with so many sand dollars scattered around. The Lower bungalow we stayed in was large, comfortable and clean with a well equipped kitchenette. There are monkeys and iguanas that visit daily that were so fun to see. The local Soda Kachete was amazing with large portions and fresh ingredients at a reasonable price, we ate dinner and lunch there multiple times throughout our stay. La Parcela was a nice restaurant about 15 minutes away and came recommended by the owner. The food was delicious and location was right on the water. we originally booked the Backpackers room but found it too small for our liking and luckily the owner had another room available she was able to move us too.

There are mixed reviews for this property so let me try to explain what to expect. The hotel will offer a very basic stay in the jungle which can be a great experience if that is what you are looking for. The owner is gradually investing in the property to bring the facilities up to standard but this will be a multi-year project at best. The location will allow for day trips to Manuel Antonio national park and Dominical, and you will wake up with jungle sounds or with a large gecko in the room, which happened to us.

A hotel for me is all about the people and Helen is one of the best! Such a kind lady who could not do enough to help. She lent me a bike and even ran me into town when needed and had some great stories to share about the area. As a nature lover I can also say that the grounds are truly idyllic. In terms of value for money, it is a great place.

The host is very characterful. We had some friends come into town without a hotel room and though the property was fully booked, she offered the option of our friends staying in our room at no additional fee which was helpful. Remote and quiet.

We booked the hotel and told them we would check in a bit late. We drove all the way to the lodge and there was nobody to welcome us, the reception was closed at 7pm. We had to go find another hotel at night on the spot.
