    It's a wonderful little place.

It's a wonderful little place. A small village that has a lot to offer: places to get a peat bath, walks on the moors, bakery and cake shop, a little village shop, restaurants, butcher ... It's so quiet and peaceful.

The Pro: pay for the “half-board”, the restaurant has amazing buffet breakfast & lunch, seat served dinners. Beautiful, peaceful & safe location. Room privacy & though there were a lot of guests, the buildings & grounds made it still feel personal. Free parking on site. Lovely walking lake with children park/swimming right across. Most staff were welcoming & helpful. Great location to enjoy Alps & other outdoor activities; free wifi throughout their campus. Cons: dusty, perhaps they could downsize all the decor “stuff” & cut their cleaning time; dirty, old carpets (some rooms renovated with parquet); ragged towels; had same tablecloth at assigned seat for nearly 2 weeks; some staff were just downright rude; no air conditioning & no screens on windows… summer is hot so you need to open windows but it invites in all the insects; all activities cost $$$, I say “all” but really they don’t offer much as far as organized activities (surely a missed opportunity here). Know before you go… take necessary hygiene products (rural area with limited immediate access), no laundromat though they will wash your clothing for a huge cost per item; no real introduction to the facility so you will flounder until you figure out the flow; only in German (thank goodness for Google translate!) & some staff irritated that guests don’t speak German (those that do tend to get better service by these staff members as well); smoking allowed everywhere outside so dining outdoor on their lively patio or opening room windows does have added risk. Bottom line: this hotel needs to decide what it’s brand is. Marketed as a wellness spa but not cohesive theme (smoking, lack of wellness opportunities etc). It could easily become a vacation retreat with real activities that people book a year in advance to enjoy. Altogether, I will likely stay here again when I have to be in the area for work.

The environment was very nice, there is a small lake and mountains everywhere. We expected more from a 4 Stars hotel. My bed was uncomfortable, and the floor in the room was not clean. I told in the reception, that I would like to have a new mattress, and they did not change it, despite they said, they will. The breakfast was very tasty and waiters were friendly.

A beautiful unspoilt gem in the heart of the Ammergauer Alps. Scenic and tranquil. Great for jogging, walking, cycling or just lounging around taking in the view. Enjoy a true Bavarian atmosphere and delicious local food at the Metzgerwirt. Hire bikes or go by car to nearby towns of Garmisch-Partenkirchen for some shopping and a cable car trip up the AlpSpix for exhilarating views. Of course, you must pop in at Oberammergau, famous for beautiful wooden carvings.

The location is beautiful, and the staff is pleasant. The apartments we stayed in are quite nice, but in need of renovation. The solid wood furniture is nice, and lends to the charm, but all upholstered (sofas, chairs etc) need to be redone. The carpet should be thrown out, it looks as old as the hotel. The bathrooms were adequate, but could also use a freshening up.

This is a lovely hotel that has been through an unbelievably bad time because of the freak hail storm that caused so much damage just 3 weeks before our arrival. In those circumstances, the comfort and the friendliness and helpfulness of staff was outstanding.
