How can you enjoy the sights in Berlin while avoiding the crowds?

If you are going to see some of the museum's in and around Berlin I would definitely recommend the museum pass. It gives 3 consecutive days access to all museums in the program (you get a book telling you which ones with the card). You only need to go in to three museums and you have pretty much broke even on the cost of the card. It also cuts out most of the ticket queues as you just show the card to get in. You do still need a timed ticket for some museums though so read the signs as you will be refused entry if you don't have one, they are free but where required you must have one. If you are going to the Pergamon museum I would recommend getting there before it's scheduled opening time. I got there half an hour before the advertised time and was let in. A couple of hours or so later and there was a 2hr queue just to get tickets. It is also stupidly busy on weekends as buses ship a lot of tourists in from the surrounding cities and countries so I would avoid these days if possible.

Hotels that guests love in Berlin

  • Very good location almost in the centre of Berlin, next to metro stop. Very affordable prices. Cheap restaurants around the hotel. 20 minutes walking from Brandenburg Gate and another 20 to Alexander Platz (the central train and metro station).

  • Situated in a quiet street just a few metro stops from the city centre, this hotel offered a good night sleep, probably the best we had in Germany, in a beautiful old building with matching retro decor. Iranian rugs were a nice touch. The owners are lovely, always at your service and ready to help with anything. Would defo stay here again. Metro station is less than 5 mins on foot.

  • Great location in the city centre, a stone's throw away from Alexanderplatz and close to all the bars and restaurants in the hip Mitte district. The hotel has a trendy and modern feel to it, and although the room was not large, it was clean and tidy, as was the bathroom. Overall, a nice "value for money" place.

    Rahul, Group from Germany
  • Very friendly staff. This is a classy hotel. The general upkeep is 5 star. No worn furniture, looks like it is regularly decorated, quality of everything is very high and the rooms are very big with really nice beds. The gym is very small but adequate and the pool is nice. Decent location (Charlottenburg) to get around - need a cab or metro to the centre of Berlin but its not far. The main road the hotel is on is within the classy shopping area - Guicci, Boss, Burberry, Tumi, etc.... Overall - very nice hotel, and would stay again.

  • The hotel is very well located in center berlin, right next to one of the main tube station. It is in a very quiet area. The staff was very helpful, from the moment we arrived. The lobby is well-designed. The decor is unique, a nice combination of old industrial german architecture and modern furniture. I believe it is the best deal in berlin in terms of value for money. I will definitely recommend Catalonia Berlin Mitte to everyone looking for a cool place in central berlin and I will book again in the future.

Rabbits in the garden), swimming pool and sauna, a beer vending machine!(such a novelty) laundry facilities bar/restaurant with good food(breakfast is available... I wasn't that keen though.
