Founded by the Romans in 38 BC and idyllically located on the Rhine River, Cologne offers the perfect blend of historical and modern Germany. There’s no place more picturesque to drink a Kolsch beer and eat a schnitzel than on the banks of the River Rhine. Here you’ll find the Altstad, or Old Town, with the impressive Cologne Dom on the skyline.
Visitors to Cologne in November can dance the days away at the Carnival Parade. In December, no trip to Cologne’s magical Christmas markets is complete without a steaming mug of Gluhwein.
The charm extends to other seasons as well, thanks to the medieval wonders of the Cologne Cathedral and the Twelve Romanesque churches. Learn about the city’s history at the Roman-Germanic Museum or take a postmodern approach at Museum Ludwig. Whether historic or culinary, a trip to the Chocolate Museum can complete any tour.
Booking.com offers 260 different accommodations, ranging from apartments to mid-budget hotels to guest houses. So whether you’re stepping out of a plane at the Cologne Bonn Airport or a shop on Hohe Strasse, you will be sure to have a cozy room for those cool European nights.
“Helpfull, generally very good choice”
“Close to Rewe and Norma. Secure parking lot that was a good price for over night parking.”
“This is a very nice 5-star hotel. However, the room rate is for a 4-star at best. Services and rooms are excellent. There are very nice and famous restaurants in the hotel.”
“The Excelsior Hotel Ernst is perfectly located for anyone visiting Cologne for the Christmas markets. Overlooking the magnificent Cathedral and close proximity to many great cafes and restaurants, it's a great choice if you're only going to be in Cologne for a few day and want to have quick access to all the great sites. The Excelsior is a beautiful hotel, with spacious, tastefully decorated rooms and although right in the center of Cologne it was very quiet at nighttime. The hotel has free Wi-Fi , and even comes with a tablet in the room if you need to surf or look up activities for the day. We got the S-Bahn out from the Airport, which only took 15 minutes. And got off at the Cologne Central Station “Köln Hauptbahnhof” which is literally 2 minutes walk from the hotel. So no taxi needed! We loved staying at the Excelsior, its a great hotel, and the staff are lovely. i would recommend it to anyone staying in Cologne. If you want to avail of the afternoon tea i would recommend emailing ahead of your arrival as it's very popular. We tried to book on check in but they were all booked up for the entire weekend. Stayed November 2014, travelled as a couple”
“The hotels location is incredible- just steps from the main train station and cathedral. The rooms are large with plenty of space. Beds were very comfortable. Plenty of hot water in a very large bathroom. The staff were good and some excellent.”
“It was amazing weekend. I worked during the handball Velux Final Four at Lanxess Arena. Really close to the arena and good transport to the centrum. Superb hotel! I plan I will be back with my 5-member family! Danke schön!”
“Staff were exceptionally professional and friendly”
“Staff friendliness at the reception desk Room Upgrade Location Cleanliness Breakfast”
“Atmosphere and choice of restaurants/ facilities on site.”
“Friendly and clean. Easy to walk to the short distance to the Cathedral and from there to all the other Christmas markets. Very close to the station.”
“Close to restaurants, shops and airport. Also great value”
“Good location, close to tram lines, and yet, only a short walk to the Dom”
“The food was more than excellent We will come back !!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Excellent location for central Cologne and the Messe. Modern building/rooms/fixtures/fittings Good breakfast included. Very reasonable lunch and evening meal available.”
“Big, clean and comfy apartment in the centre of town.”
“The room was clean and tastefully decorated (we very much enjoyed the rotating table with the painting/mirror). The breakfast was excellent, with a variety of different food and very attentive serving staff. Very close to HBF and the city centre. Will definitely consider this hotel should I need to visit Cologne again.”
“We went for two nights over the New Year and enjoyed a beautiful, spacious double bedroom. The room was clean and we had a pleasant view of the Rhine. The Elemis shampoos are very good! Very friendly and helpful staff. We ordered breakfast in bed which was lovely. The sauna is good fun. Highly recommended this hotel if you want to spend a few nights visiting Cologne. It is close to the city centre (10 minute walk along Rhine).”
“Central location, close to all the sights and amenities in Cologne. Hotel easy to find, situated just off the main pedestrian shopping street less than 10 minutes walk to the main station, cathedral, River Rhine, the old town, shops, bars, cafes. U Bahn station etc. The Cologne exhibition centre is only a couple of stops on the U Bahn, the station being a few minutes walk away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Help yourself buffet breakfast was typical continental fayre.”
“Decent enough budget hotel. Close to station/old town so all the places to see in Cologne are easily accessible. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.”
“The hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Cologne in a quiet suburb. A lovely courtyard greets you as you arrive, a homely feel to the hotel. The room had a balcony to sit and enjoy the peace after a hectic day in the city centre.”
