FAQs about hotels in Würzburg

A Stately Start to the Romantic Road

At the start of Bavaria’s scenic Romantic Road, Würzburg is an elegant city with monuments attesting the power of the Church. On a green hill west of the city center is Marienberg Fortress, the former seat of the ruling prince-bishops. Now, it houses the Mainfränkisches art museum and overlooks the statue-lined Old Bridge crossing the Main River below.

But its the home of the prince-bishops that really steals the show. The opulence of the Würzburg Residence and its landscaped gardens have earned it a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The surrounding U-shaped park extends all the way around the historic center.

This park is the first thing you see when leaving the train station, and nearby is the Röntgen memorial commemorating the physicist who discovered X-rays while teaching at Würzburg University, one of the oldest in the country.

Also one of Germany’s oldest is the Würzburger Stein vineyard outside the city. Some of the region’s signature Franken wine can be sampled in the cellar of historic Julius Spital hospital. Nearby is the Falkenhaus and the neighboring Church of Our Lady borders the main square. The cathedral is much larger and has its own museum.

Booking.com’s places to stay in Würzburg includes luxury spa hotels, guesthouses with parking, and cheap hostels.

A very interesting historical city, much of which has been lovingly restored after devastating air raid damage in WW2. The Residence I(and its gardens) are well worth visiting, being a smaller scale version of the palaces at Versailles and Charlottenburg. Don't miss the Hofkirche while there. The Marienberg Fortress on the hill overlooking the town offers fantastic views, but is currently being extensively refurbished. It is still worth visiting though. And if you like visiting churches, you will not be disappointed here. Fantastic cuisine and wine available here. we can heartily recommend Aifach Resins and zum Stachel, the former for more contemporary cuisine and the latter for more traditional fare in traditional and historic surroundings.

Würzburg is a very interesting city and well worth a visit.

Würzburg is a very interesting city and well worth a visit. The Residenz was nice and the views from the Fortress were spectacular. Sadly the Fortress was closed on Mondays. We stayed at the Maritime Hotel which was the perfect host. Lovely hotel and friendly staff. Breakfast was sumptuous and delicious. It is centrally situated, has parking facilities and we could walk to the city without any problems. The restaurant Alte Krane and the boat trip to Veitshöchheim was also very nice and interesting. The time spent wandering though the gardens of this very interesting quaint town was lovely. We only missed a guided walking tour of Würzburg, which was cancelled at the last minute. The information desk at the Tourist Info Office could have been more helpful. Their offer of guided tours needs to be increased. Only one offered early on a Sunday morning😒 Otherwise, Würzburg is fabulous. We met some very friendly people, especially Omi and a group of boys from Günzburg who were celebrating a bachelor party were very funny and entertaining☺️

lovely setting- even the train station has a vineyard as backdrop. the old town is compact and easy to walk around. Locals were very friendly Great place to wander and soak up the atmosphere Lots of history to learn about, loads of shops and cafes ( lots for vegans and vegetarians), wineries to visit ( Juliusspital has lovely building and garden) . Attractions include the Residence ( which has lovely grounds to wander in) and the Fortress, which also has walks around it. The city website https://www.wuerzburg.de/ is really useful ( and has version in English, including downloadable audiofiles for a self guided tour)

    It's a lovely place.

It's a lovely place. I was in Wurzburg doing the marathon and was able to see a bit on both sides of River Main. The old town is certainly really beautiful running through streets full of restaurants & cafe and churches. River trip - it was a 90mins ride up and down stream which gave me a chance to have a look along the river outside of town. Bimmelbahn mini train ride (45mins) - that was great!! It gave me a chance to gain some general idea of the city. Highly recommended. I went to a concert of Mozart Fest at Wurzburg Residence. It is a beautiful building with a well maintained garden. I also went to Juliusspital to taste some wines and had couple glass of wine before going to Munich. Highly recommended.

It is a beautiful city with a lot of good people.

It is a beautiful city with a lot of good people. A wonderful sight on every inch of it. The cultural background is profound and immersive, making you stay in awe while walking the streets. The city center has everything you need, but if by any chance you need something different than the center, the transportation is thought through and through, making it possible to reach every part of it with ease.

If you are a good walker, Würzburg is relatively easy to explore on foot. It's full of historic buildings, including the overwhelming Residenz or Bishop's Palace (with the famous floating staircase, impressive public rooms and a huge ceiling fresco painted by the Italian master Tiepolo and his two teenage sons in just a year!) and the historic fortress Marienberg overlooking the city. Würzburg has been around since the 700s and painstaking restoration has made good the severe damage from World War II bombing. There are a number of beautiful churches and chapels, both Gothic and Renaissance, and several good museums. The city is strung along the Main river, and boat excursions are freely available in spring, summer and fall. I particularly recommend the art quarter, centered around the Kulturspeicher, a name that is a pun because the word "Speicher" means both storage and memory. It's a huge and architecturally interesting former storage structure that now houses museum space, a cabaret and a cafe and is complemented by the Arte Noah (Noah's Art, another pun), a museum ship more than a century old. There's a vast movie theatre nearby and plenty of good restaurants throughout the city -- we particularly enjoyed Cafe Mozart!

The appartement is very cosy and you have everything you need. Location is great, walking distance from both the Residenz palace and Würzburg Süd station. We did a day trip to Rothenburg because it was so convenient by train. The apartment was impeccably clean. Friendly communication too.
