Hotel Sierra Madre Very good 8 The staff were excellent. As a single female traveller I was very happy with the assistance given. I organised my airport transfers with the hotel via email and received same day replies, and they were there to pick me up when I arrived. I always felt safe, Laundromat and convenience store a short walk from hotel and a large supermarket and good restaurants are only a few blocks away. The hotel organised taxis when I needed to travel further. Breakfasts were included and very wholesome. Family members had stayed here previously and spoke highly of their experience. There are no elevators so you do need to carry luggage upstairs unless you request a ground or first floor room. You may also feel the effects of altitude when climbing the stairs! Would definitely stay there again.
Hotel Quito Good 7.7 The 270 view of Quito from the restaurant is special. My wife loved the heated pool and we found several places to eat within a short walking distance. Two thumbs up.
Hotel Vieja Cuba Excellent 8.9 Everyone at the hotel made us very welcomed. The ladies at the front desk spoke excellent english and gave us great advice on travel and things to do. They were extremely friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is right on the edge of La Mariscal, the touristy center of Quito. You can easily walk to shops and restaurants. A big handicraft market is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Hotel is quiet and safe. But like any other city in the world, you have to be street smart and aware of your surroundings, i.e. don't walk alone or late at night. Take a cab, they're numerous and cheap. We love Quito and Ecuador in general. People were very friendly and patient with my faltering spanish. Just remember to smile a lot and be respectful. Strangers are always happy to help. We loved hanging out in the old city they call Centro Historico with wonderful colonial architecture. Otavalo is a wonderful overnight trip to the large handicraft markets. Also a great way to ride the local buses and see the countryside. It is $2 for a two hour drive from Quito. Can't beat that. If you're adventurous, use the Vencendores (sp?) buses in Quito to get around. They stop very close to the hotel. Very safe and cheap at 25 cents a ride. Check out the Gauyasaminn museum.
Hotel Patio Andaluz Very good 8.4 Everything! Friendliness of staff and their helpfulness. Very accommodating.
Hotel Rio Amazonas Good 7.5 convienence to all necessary activities.
Hotel Finlandia Excellent 8.7 Location was central, staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were modern, spacious, and clean. Wifi worked fine. Included breakfasts were very good and included plenty of local fruits and juices.
Hotel Akros Excellent 8.6 Excellent, courteous service; a very good breakfast buffet included in the price. The hotel is right in front of a bus stop that serves the two major tourist areas (Centro Histórico and Mariscal) just minutes away; in a safe part of town, close to shopping areas and many restaurants.
Hotel Tambo Real Very good 8.2
The Yellow House Very good 8.2 Gabi was amazing. I arrived in Quito so late and she was so gracious and very understanding. She was fluent in English which was a help since my Spanish is limited. She even made sure a taxi got me to the bus station safely and saw to it he didn't overcharge me. The entire experience was positive.
Casa Gangotena Wonderful 9.3 Charming ambiance, location in the historical district and friendly helpful staff
