Doña Pakyta Very good 8.4 The hotel is spacious, so are the rooms, with a fantastic outlook on the beach. The restaurant has the same view, the beach can be reached by walking down the stairs. The staff is very friendly. They forgot to charge me for my breakfast, and when I told them about it they offered it for free.
Cortijo El Sotillo Very good 8.1 Think before booking the hotel. The hotel is perfectly good with nice internal facilities, very clean, helpful staff and acceptable food (though a little expensive). But the fifteen horses that are looked after in the grounds (which is supposed to be managed by a different company) are a disgrace to Andalusia and Spain.
Hotel Don Ignacio Good 7.4 Location by the beach is excellent - good facilities and would recommend to friends
Santuario San José Very good 8.5 The friendly hardworking staff did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable and we cannot praise them enough. By UK standards this is certainly more than a hostal. It is spotlessly clean and comfortable and well located in a quiet street just a few yards from the centre of San José and we had no problem parking on the street right outside the hotel. It is obvious that great care has been taken to maintain El Santuario to the highest standard with well kept gardens and terraces and tasteful decoration and furnishing throughout. We were on the second floor and had a view across the village to the sea. On arrival Tatyana explained that there wasn't a lift and if we were unhappy at being on the second floor we could move to another room, however we were perfectly happy where we were. The room and bathroom were spacious with a comfortable bed, TV, a small fridge and plenty of hot water. Wifi reception was good and free. There is a large, communal lounge just off the reception area if you want to chill in a comfy chair or sofa, watch the large screen TV or use the PC. For breakfast there was fresh bread and croissants (which can be toasted), cereals, jams, honey, tomato and oil, a selection of cold meats and cheese, freshly fried eggs on request, yogurt, fresh fruit, magdalenas, tea, coffee and juice...and also delicious arroz con leche on some mornings. We were there out of season so obviously it was quiet but there were still sufficient shops, bar, cafes and restaurants open and San José makes an excellent base from which to explore Cabo de Gata-Nijar and to do some hiking and cycling. We have no hesitation in recomending El Santuario de San José and it was certainly excellent value for money; when walking around the village we saw one or two 4 star hotels but we could not imagine what more they might offer which would make them better than El Santuario and undoubtedly we would love to return.
Apartahotel Vistamar San José Very good 8.3 good size apartment, with large balcony looking over lovely sea view. Underground car park with elevator to all floors so easy to unload the car. Pool looked good too early in year to use! Hot tub needs to be booked 5 hours in advance so if you are going on a long walk book before you go
Villas Montemar Good 7.7 Fairly close to the beach. The staff was friendly.
Las Olas Very good 8.5 i loved being able to lay in bed and see the sea
Hostal Costa Rica Good 7.5 Hotel was near beach, quiet street, parking outside, fast wifi & double bed was comfy
Apartamentos El Puerto Very good 8.3 A great apartment got everything you needed fabulous views.
