Rovaniemi is a really great city to visit. In winter the city is under a lot of snow but has always trucks to get the snow out of the road, small rocks on the pavement to prevent from falling.
Rovaniemi has a lot of green tracks and its is lovely to follow them along the river. Great places for children to play too.
For dinner time, I can recommend the MonteRosa restaurant in the city center. Great and friendly service from all the employees, excellent food and drinks. (I can recommend the salmon soup, the grilled salmon and the reindeer cooked two ways).
For lunch, I went to Cafe & Bar 21. It was busy from 12 to 15 (I guess very popular) but nonetheless very enjoyable. Combining the bar/coffee with Yuca (a mexican restaurant) is great because people can have different lunch if wished. The deserts are also excellent.
For the activities, everybody can found something that they like. For the french people you can found the Nordic Odyssey office to book activities with a french translator (even if the english explanation I had where really understanding). It can always be helpful for the people who can't speak english.
You can found supermarket everywhere and some of them are open until 22:00 which is great.

Great town with lots of things to do.
Great town with lots of things to do. It is definitely a walkable town, we walked everywhere. The food was really good everywhere we went. Don't forget to visit the northern most McDonald's, I did for the picture but my friend actually ate there and said it was good.
Lots of tour companies so make sure to walk around and get prices and then go for the tour. The prices are very reasonable considering the location, can't speak for high season but at least for us they were good. We visited in February. The weather was great, it was -0C but it was a dry cold so not over bearing. If you are chasing the Northern Lights, check out the weather. The clouds are enemy #1 for Northern Light chasers, trust me. It is possible to see them but the question is: how far are you willing to drive to see them?
I have nothing but good things to say about Rovaniemi, great people, good food, clean (dirty snow doesn't count) and I always felt safe.

Santa from the city center was better than the one in SCV (at least for us). He was really communicative, giving us tips and tricks for aurora hunting. After we bought a picture we could take more with our own phone, made videos for our friends etc.
We love that there are different places where you can barbeque during the walking.
Lake from Artikum museum is a good place to see aurora. Loved the winter trails.
Souvenirs are cheaper in SCV than in the city center.

The centre of Rovaniemi is easy to get around and has plenty of shops and cafes, plus supermarkets if you're self-catering. It is a perfect snowy destination in winter. We visited the Snow Hotel (you need to dress up warmly as its pretty cold, but a vodka in the Ice Bar helps!) and also Santa Village, which is probably best for families with small children

The attractions there are very expensive.
The attractions there are very expensive. Some are nice, but, sometimes you feel like all they care about is how to take more and more money from us.
When you pay hundreds of euros for 1-2 hours attraction, is outraging.
From our welcome meet, Aleksi and his family were such amazing hosts. Always available when we needed some help and/or guidance. Provided us with some great tips on what to do in and around Rovaniemi. The location was so serene and absolutely beautiful. The cabin was perfect and cozy for those winter nights. Our highlight was definitely seeing the Northern Lights on our first time. Would definitely recommend and I would definitely be back. Next time, we will be sure to rent a vehicle 😉
We were unlucky to get bad weather but with clear skies the view would have been exceptional. Property is right on the lake and too quiet. Amenities are basic but it has what is needed. Please note that if you are booking igloo, do check that you are comfortable with the washroom arrangements. The property is far away from town and a car is very much required.
This property is a experience, just wish we had better weather and luck with northern lights to enjoy it more.
If I had to use one word to summarize our stay, it would be: Exceptional! The design of the igloo/apartment was amazing. The views from the room were lovely, and the private hot tub + sauna were wonderful. They served the best breakfast in Lapland and we also enjoyed an amazing dinner at their restaurant. The staff was courteous, friendly, and did everything to make our stay amazing. If you have plans to visit Rovaniemi, you MUST stay here!
It was outstanding! We enjoyed the stay a lot, we had everything we needed in that room: good tasty food. There was no staff there because it's an apart hotel, but we can say that they organized our room in a cosy way. Everything was available.
The staff wrote a very kind note that I took as a souvenir. We really loved to stay there... We loved every single detail and we thank everyone who made an effort to make it as cosy as possible!
Don’t hesitate to book Villa Kyyhkynen if you’re looking for a place to stay in Rovaniemi, and want the privacy of a villa as opposed to a hotel. The villa was perfect for our family of 5 and in beautiful location from where we could go for lots of lovely walks , yet convenient to go into city when needed. It was spotlessly clean, and well equipped in every way . And a very responsive owner!! Thank you so much for a lovely stay!
The team is great !!! We got a super nice room with amazing view !! All our requests were fullfill. The specific room, the birthday cake and we got champagne from the hotel to celebrate our anniversary !!! We were able to check out late as the normal time :) Breakfast was great and enough healty and wealthy choices!
Restaurant is amazing with the food and the service !Thank you Team of Arctic Treehouse Hotel !!
Our room was not as in the picture on Booking.com site.
The size was good but the bathroom was total caos!
Tiles missing, a sharp edge of the sink “inside” the shower. And I found the floors to be dirty or stained. The room is old. We booked to be in the SCANDIC hotel, but we were put in the Lapland tour building. Had to go out in the cold for breakfast, to by water and the elevator doesn’t work after 18:00
Amazing hotel, the location is best to relax after the long trip. It is surrounded by a very small community, a super market and that's it. The hotel rooms are spacious, the bed is comfy, the bathroom is spacious, they have android tv which is cherry on top. You can make your own food or bbq if you want. I loved the location. We also got sauna for free at no additional cost.
Service team of the Hotel is very helpful. They provided a Birthday greeting card and candies to welcome my daughter's stay to celebrate her birthday.
They also helped us call taxi to Rovaniemi city centre.
The Hotel is close to the Santa Claus Village for day-tour. Stand outside the Hotel Room can take Northern Light with easy.
This place is absolutely magical! We were lucky enough to see the northern lights from the warmth of our beds. The igloos are made so thoughtfully with every part of it made for a specific function for your comfort. The hot tub was perfect even in such cold weather! The setting is beyond beautiful
Lovely hotel with good facilities. Nice lounger area near reception, but can also access the pub within the same building also downstairs. Great rooms with comfortable beds and nice shower. Very good breakfast with lots of choice and nice breakfast area. Good location for centre of Rovaniemi
Beautiful city centre hotel. Right in the heart of Rovaniemi. Location was excellent. Cosy little apartment. Has everything you need. Owner was very responsive with messages. Bed has a memory foam mattress which was very comfortable. Would recommend for a couple. Decor was fabulous.
The hotel is well located, in the center of Rovaniemi with easy access to restaurants, public transport, supermarket.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Very good breakfast with wide choice between European breakfast and local products.
All of the staff in the hotel are so accomodating and friendly. The breakfast are great. They will help you to book your activities in rovaniemi. it was a home away from home experience. The hotel was new.
A really great hotel to stay in Rovaniemi. A short walk to nature, a short walk to the city, a short walk to restaurants, a bus or an experience agency everywhere else.
It’s a little outside Rovaniemi, in a forest. I love thé ease of walking in the forest from the hotel. It’s also a nice walk to the town center and the science museum.
