Historical centre is great and there's so much of it.

Historical centre is great and there's so much of it. Viking experience left us breathless it was brilliant. Jeanne d'Arc Historial is free and very interesting. The Maladrerie was also great as there was a plant fair when we were there. So many cathedrals! The main one is unbelievable and we were there for the Son et Lumiere AND St Fiacre's day with an amazing array of fruit and veg. Good timing on our part! Church of Jeanne d'Arc blew my mind.

Small open city with tons of history.

Small open city with tons of history. Much of the centre is pedestrianised or with very limited traffic. Easy to get around on foot and has something to see around almost every corner. For drivers, there is ample parking at modest cost.

Wonderful historic city, but we wouldn't stay longer than 24hrs again. Kind of did the main attractions in a day. If you include a Sunday in your schedule, largely everything is closed. The attempts at shared transport initiatives and prioritizing pedestrian/cycle in the centre has resulted in incredibly confusing road layouts for all. There is little logic to the layout. We were on route north from a drive/stay in central/south of France and similar initiatives worked better, and without the bizarre road paint.

Rouen is a beautiful city with an amazing history. The city has a beautiful mixture of very old And new buildings - the most half timbered houses in France. Fabulous dining choices and bars. Lovely vibe everywhere and excellent shopping. We loved Normandy

Two thousand half-timbered buildings through the city centre...

Two thousand half-timbered buildings through the city centre peppered with gothic stone churches and the Cathedral; many pedestrianised roads, little central traffic. An overwhelming variety and number of places to eat, so a different joy every evening. The art gallery (Beaux Arts) superb, welcoming, free, feels friendly, accessible and just the right size; cool in the heat, dry in the wet and free toilets. Cafe closed when we went but still had the seating available. Joan of Arc experience in the archbishops palace uses original sources to recreate virtually her second trial at which she was posthumously pardoned. Lots of information and not too scary. And it didn’t blame it all on the English! A sound and light show on the front of Rouen cathedral free every night in the summer and well attended but not crushed. The city itself is the experience and visitors felt welcomed.

The town had a lovely vibe and had plenty of places to eat and drink that were open until quite late. There were plenty of historical buildings and the town was very scenic. Unfortunately as we were only there for one night we did not do any of the site seeing activities.

Great location, only 2 and bit hours from Calais and just 15 minutes on the bus to the centre of the city. We enjoyed being able to buy food and wine from the nearby Carrefour Local and eat it in the communal area on the ground floor of the hotel. We have stayed here several times, we like to break our journey to and from La Vendee with an overnight here. We have also stayed here when visiting Rouen itself.

This was the best hotel within our northern France trip. Clean and modern. Very good facilities. Parking was a bit tight, but still was the most spacious compared to others.
