Harry Tuffin is a great store selling just about everything.
Harry Tuffin is a great store selling just about everything. The Discovery Centre is good. Didn't try any pubs in the town. Only saw one but didn't look that attractive, but I didn't try so I'm not qualified to say.

Craven Arms is an excellent jumping-off point for this part...
Craven Arms is an excellent jumping-off point for this part of Shropshire. It's within easy reach of Ludlow, Church Stretton, Bishops Castle, Clun and Much Wenlock. The supermarket - Tuffins - is independent and seems to have got lost on its way to France: is there anything it doesn't sell?
The neighbouring towns are charming and are largely preserved from the 18th century and beyond. Walk down the high street of any of them and it feels like being part of a costume drama.
Most of the shops in this part of the world are independent. There are remarkably few chains and this adds to the allure. It all feels slightly foreign - and inviting.
Stuff to do? Excellent walking! The Long Mynd (above Church Stretton) has a steep climb and staggering views. One of the hidden glories of the UK. Ludlow Market is well worth visiting (as is the town). And there's a huge range of coffee shops and small eateries; craft shops and delis. The Poetry Pharmacy in Bishops Castle (check for opening times in advance) is fabulous: drink coffee and read Byron! It was reviewed by the Guardian and the owner has appeared on Radio 4.

Large village with several food amenities and Shropshire...
Large village with several food amenities and Shropshire Visitor Centre. However not particularly pretty compared with other villages and really more useful as a base for exploring the more interesting surrounding villages and landmarks.
Very nicely decorated clean cottage with good size lounge with wood burner, well equipped kitchen, separate dinning room, two bathrooms one with good shower other with deep bath. 4 tasteful bedrooms with Comfortable beds. Pretty and well kept garden. Off street parking for 1 car or 2 cars at a push. In small very quiet village with no shop. Within easy driving distance of Craven Arms, Wenlock Edge, Church Stretton, Mynd hills, Bishops Castle, Clun, Ludlow and a couple of heritage railways etc.
The location is great, well off the beaten track so peace and quiet. Trevor is very welcoming and just left us to it. I went with a couple of pals for a walking weekend and a chill out. Log burner with and endless supply of free logs is perfect. Beds are comfy. If you want 5 star Hotel accommodation then look elsewhere but if you want a real life experience away from the rat race get yourself to the Eco lodge.
The location is great to explore the hills and countryside of Shropshire. Good shop in nearby Craven Arms. The view towards the hills from the front of the house is stunning and the small balcony with chairs and bistro table is a nice touch. Although there are footpaths nearby to dog walk, I'd recommend the walks from the Discovery Centre in Craven Arms. There are good pubs in the area though none very close.
Very welcoming hosts and a good location, just outside the small town of Craven Arms, for exploring the Shropshire hills and villages. Fully equiped with absolutely everything that you could want and surprisingly spacious. Great private garden with seating and a hot tub area. An hourly direct bus service to Shrewsbury and Ludlow across the road. Would recommend and would book again.
The little self-catering apartment is wonderful for walking. Easy access to facilities in Craven Arms (food store, petrol) means you can stay local, or venture to surrounding attractions if you wish (Ludlow, Powis Castle). Very compact, but with everything you need for a great walking holiday! The private garden area is excellent for afternoon tea and relaxing after that hike.
Trevor was our host and he was incredibly kind, accommodating and helpful. He even helped us arrange a taxi back to Craven Arms train station. The accommodation was very unique, incredibly cosy and decorated adorably with many little touches and details. The views of the farm and the Shropshire countryside were amazing. The breakfast was delicious.
Very quite and peaceful location.
Lots of nice places to eat nearby.
Owners - Jonathan and Mary Berry were very welcoming and engaging.
Lots of nice places to visit with a short car journey and more a bit further out.
Great scenic walks nearby.
Had a very nice Dinner in Knighton, Wales which is only 20 mins away.
This was a comfortable Hotel, nicely located on the edge of town. Service was friendly and excellent, we felt like guests not customers. Food was of good quality and well presented, well cooked, and a wide and interesting choice. The Hotel is old and a little tired, but the rooms were clean and freshly decorated.
It is a small cabin, as expected, being very tall the beds were a bit short. Not a complaint in any way. It’s a little cabin so it’s a small bed.
Wonderful beautiful place to stay. Hosts were lovely. What a fantastic place to stay!
Hopefully we will be back in the not too distant future.
Location of Craven Arms is between Ludlow and Church Stretton so with easy reach of most sightseeing spots. Shropshire Discovery Centre is on the corner of the main road and Stokesay Castle is nearby. However, be aware a time of writing you would need to pre-book for the Castle.
The owners were lovely, very helpful and kind.
It's a very comfortable place.
We really enjoyed Craven Arms.
It was quiet but yet not far from everything and being able to enjoy the garden or to walk from the door into town was very refreshing.
a lovely cost, cottage tucked away in the middle of nowhere! our son enjoyed feeding the goats and we all loved exploring the walks in the local area. The welcome pack was a lovely touch & the owner made us feel very much at home
