The Clarence Boutique Hotel Superb 9.2 I travelled down to Portsmouth on my own for a few days away to relax and chill. This hotel automatically stood out to me from the look of the rooms. I stayed in the Superior King Room with Spa Bath..... and what can I say.... It was amazing! Could of stayed in the room the whole stay :) The location is perfect, just a 5 minute walk to local town with shops/restaurants and a 10 minute walk to sea front/pier. The whole look of the hotel was lovely, very clean and elegant throughout. Staff were all lovely, they welcome you on arrival will a complimentary drink and then take your luggage to your room. The breakfast is lovely, a huge ray of choices to choose from! The hotel is small, consists of 8 rooms, which is very nice, means its very quiet. It is also an adults only hotel :) I can not comment on the restaurant attached to hotel, as I did not eat there throughout my stay. I will definitely be returning in the summer and extremely recommend this hotel :)

Inn Lodge Portsmouth Good 7.2 Good value for our money. The hungry horse was also good value.
Best Western Royal Beach Hotel Very good 8.2 The staff. Excellent chef Perfect location for Historic Harbour because of the 10 minute frequency bus service.
Keppels Head Hotel Good 7.4 Great location for our onward travel. The best hotel breakfast "ever". The staff were spot on. True to tradition/ type. A 1700's hotel not done in a modern style. QUALITY. But if you're looking for swish modern try elsewhere.....
Stattons Boutique Hotel and Restaurant Fabulous 8.7 Lovely little hotel just tucked away from the sea front. Really nice through out, and loved my stay there. No complaints .
Queen's Hotel Good 7.4 friendly staff, good sized comfortable room, great location
Seacrest Hotel Fabulous 8.7 We had a quick stop over here and it was lovely. We arrived quite late and hadn't pre arranged a travel cot for our toddler but it wasn't a problem for the staff who provided one at short notice. Lovely breakfast included, very nice service. I'd recommend to anyone.
Duke of Buckingham Very good 8.1 I am disabled, the staff especially the young lady at the desk treated us like royalty. Absolutely a fantastic experience, did not me the management but I am sure they must be good as the staffs attitude was wonderful.

Royal Dockyard of the British Isles

An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.

In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.

The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.

For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

Hotels that guests love in Portsmouth

    • Hotel very good and clean. Near the shops and harbour. Staff very good and helpful.

    • In the centre of Southsea, easy walk to the sea and to walk along the seafront and the interesting backstreet shops. Longer walk to the Gunwharf Quays and old Portsmouth but still very possible.

    • Friendly, if a bit old-fashioned, hotel with comfortable sea-view room (very warm!). Good location about 5 mins stroll into Southsea for loads of restaurant/pub choice. Beach across the road, free kerbside parking with hotel permit. Excellent breakfast in lovely basement room. Hotel experience was better than expected on first look. 5 mins to Brittany Ferries to Spain (follow signs for Cross Channel Ferries which confused me). We would stay again.

    • Big and Clean room. Excellent English Breakfast.Great Place: 7 minutes to the Sea and the D-Day museum and in the Centre of Portsmouth with Shops and Bars nearby.Busstation with busses to the Gunwharf Quays and the main station 2 Minutes walk. And most important very friendly People.Definitely recommended!

    • Hotel seemed dated, carpets stained, mould on mastic in bathroom.Public areas ok but not overley clean.Pub was typical Greene King Hungry Horse.Too far out of the centre ,better value hotels in Portsmouth.
