Absolutely first class service, we were leaving early and the lassie that checked us in, (think she was the owner) made us a packed lunch cos we’d left too early for breakfast. Best packed lunch and well prepared even down to the Prawn Cocktail crisps 😊 nice touch. Would have no hesitation recommending the Craignelder Hotel and I’ll definitely be back.

Everything! ! The breakfast was delicious as well. The beds are comfortable, this was our 1st bathtub in 3 weeks 🥳 and the view fabulous! Kirkcolm is a quaint little town, walk around and to the path to the Loch.. beautiful! we were strictly public transport and we’re lucky to get rides from the train station and to our ferry, thank you very much! Jo and Sam are so friendly, gracious and accommodating! Sam’s cookies are delicious! I highly recommend this place for the wonderful hostesses and the calm and serenity.

I had an absolutely delightful stay at the log cabin. Ian and Kay proved to be exceptional hosts, going the extra mile to ensure our comfort. Ian even paid us a visit shortly after our arrival, ensuring that everything was to our satisfaction and providing clear guidance on how to reach him should we require any assistance. The seclusion of these cabins is nothing short of perfect, offering serene views of the sea, with the added bonus of glimpses of Belfast's city lights twinkling in the distance during the night. The west-facing position of the cabins is a true highlight, providing us with breathtaking sunsets that felt like a daily gift from nature. What truly impressed me was the thoughtful attention to detail within the cabins themselves. They were equipped with everything one could possibly need, from reliable WIFI for staying connected to modern hot showers that added a touch of luxury to the rustic charm of the log cabin experience. In summary, my stay at this log cabin was a wonderful escape from the everyday hustle and bustle, thanks to the warm hospitality of Ian and Kay, the idyllic setting, and the well-appointed cabins. I can't wait to return for another dose of tranquility and those stunning sunsets. Highly recommended!

Room was very comfortable and well appointed; TV needed a wee bit of attention but then worked perfectly (previous guest had been fiddling with it!); breakfast was one of the best cooked breakfasts I have enjoyed when staying away from home - freshly cooked to order and very tasty! A big 10/10 - eggselent!

    There's almost zero reason to visit Stranraer itself; no ferries run from here now. I found one decent shop of interest, the little museam was ok and free. The proximity to the mull of galloway and the rhins was my reason for staying. The accomodation choice was not great, but Royal Hotel was the best option

    Stranraer is a little rundown after its fortunes were affected by the relocation of the ferry along the road to Cairnryan. Much of the harbour is run down with tatty parking bays for ferry vehicles. However there are hidden gems, the swan lido and park by the water, an ACTUAL tourist information office, helpful public library. Decent if rather retro restaurants - Chinese, pizza oven. Museum and castle to visit although check opening hours.

    A very nice and friendly town, with everything handy. Would recommend Dnisi coffee and cafe, their scones are great, with a great selection of drinks and food available. Also Baxters, a beautiful shop with goodies galore, definitely worth a visit, and if you are looking for a perfect gift it's the place to go. Had a great night at Stranraer FC bar in the centre of town. A lively and friendly night with Live music, dancing and a sing-a-long. Perfect Scottish hospitality. ❤

    Good location for exploring surrounding countryside.

    Good location for exploring surrounding countryside. Shopping street and buildings in need of help. Henry’s Bay house was fun with excellent food and a view. Some good facilities like the swimming pool although not visited on this trip. Good to be able to visit the Corsewall lighthouse area.

    Our room was spacious and very clean, as was the bathroom. We went for a room with a bigger bed, which was great - very comfy. There was tea and coffee, as well as some homemade shortbread which was a lovely touch. The room had plenty of storage space, as well as a small TV, chairs and a coffee table. Breakfast was fantastic, we got to pick what we fancied and it was all tasty and set us up perfectly for our day of exploring. There was plenty on-street parking and there are shops nearby - such as a Tesco in Stranraer.

    Friendly check in staff, our rooms were ready on arrival, even though we arrived early, and I was pleasantly surprised to have been allocated a sea view suite. I've stayed at the North West Castle several times and never had any issues. I enjoyed the swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi as on my previous stays. Breakfast choice was extensive and freshly cooked, unlike some tepid buffets. Absolutely nothing negative to say about our stay and I look forward to returning in the near future.
