The Blenheim Buttery, hotel in Woodstock

Situated in central Woodstock, this charming 17th-century building is 8 miles north of Oxford.

Great location, quiet despite being in the town centre. Clean and well appointed. Very friendly and helpful staff. The cooked breakfast was very tasty and good products used. We found it to be on the small side but it was increased to our liking when we mentioned it.

Just a quiet ‘market’ town, mostly individual shops where all the staff working in them were genuinely interested in serving you and making conversation as to why you were visiting and where you’d come from.

Our trip was fundamentally to view the lights and the house...

Our trip was fundamentally to view the lights and the house at Blenheim Palace; the theme was Sleeping Beauty. We arrived at about 3pm. Just right as dusk was setting in. We toured the house which was utterly incredible - How a person or company could put together such a phenomental piece of design, unchanging in its beauty, throughout the rooms that had been decorated to continue the theme - I do not know. To continue outside and see the light display was nothing short of sensational - it lit up the whole of the 1.5 miles of the walking tour and the evening sky. An unforgettable experience. The next day we shopped through the village enjoying its ancient buildings and some of the shops filled with objects d`art , clothes, furniture and lighting. An experience that cannot be better but can be changed...........in summer.

Woodstock is a pretty medieval town with many eateries, interesting shops, a free museum, lots of walks and, of course, Blenheim Palace nestled next to it in all its splendour. Apart from the main Street, there are many attractive side streets to explore. The buildings are attractive, being made from the local stone which was also used to build Blenheim Palace. They appear to ‘glow’ in the sun.

Blenheim Palace and Gardens are wonderful. Eating out is rather expensive but there are several good options. Woodstock is easily to get around, with some lovely shops and cafes. The small museum is worth a visit.

This hotel is right in the centre of beautiful Woodstock with plenty of free overnight parking just outside the door. Rooms are spacious and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was deliciously made with all local produce and plenty of choice. Staff were very welcoming and all in all it was a perfect little break away from it all. Oxford can easily be reached by park and ride service and Blenheim palace, with its beautiful grounds and interesting history, is a short walk away. We will definitely return.

Proper old coaching inn. We loved lounging around in the downstairs room with comfy chairs, warm fire and good coffee. Also the tipsy floor in our room was quite fun. We were by the road but the sound insulation worked well (not if you open the window!). The breakfast is excellent and the staff lovely. Woodstock is very attractive (good pubs and restaurants- Marlborough Arms doesn’t do food or draft beer) and Blenheim a stone’s throw. Easy to get the bus into centre of Oxford.

The room was a good size, the bathroom was very good and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was very good with a good choice. Dinner was superb. Delicious duck and apple tart tatin. (We had one dinner in the hotel). There were quite a few other places to eat nearby. The reception staff and staff in the dining room were very friendly and pleasant. It is a short stroll to Blenheim Palace and Woodstock is a great historic town.

The Buttery is a charming place that fits in nicely with the charming village of Woodstock. The room was one flight up from a small courtyard, and breakfast is a real treat. Of added attraction is The Buttery's proximity to Blenheim Palace, down the street and to the left, and the nearby Italian restaurant, Brothertons Brasserie.
