We were in Mestia at the end of the winter season (end of March). If you want to ski relaxed and without queues in the middle of the great scenery of the Caucasus: Tetnuldi (30 to 40 minutes by car from the hotel) is an absolute insider tip!!! A smaller ski area is only 5 minutes away. Modern chairlifts, slopes well prepared......breathtaking views. A real alternative for skiing to the crowded skiresorts in the Alps!

I was thinking Mestia was just gateway for Usyuguri Village, but the fact is not. It is nice and cozy town but very convenient as I could buy basic stuff at some shops and change money. Mestia is a very beuatiful and special place in Georgia. Here you can find wonderful mountains, interesting traditions and great food. To go here it is better to choose Summer or Winter season. Winter is good for skiing, Summer is good for trekking and hiking. When in Mestia do not miss the chance to go uphill to Ushguli. These villages are UNESCO heritage and it is necessary to see it at least once. However, be informed that the road to Ushguli is really dangerous because of the stone falls and it is better not to go there when there is a bad weather, especially during the rain.

Upon arrival she offered us coffee, cha cha and some snack. We loved their cha cha and cognac so much, that we bought some as well. (Best cha cha and cognac that we tasted in Georgia) Her daughter speaks very well English, so communication was good. The place is spotless clean and location is also good in Mestia center. I would highly recommend this guest house.

It is simple, but nice and clean. You can communicate with the host in English through Booking, but since he is not there, when you arrive you can only speak in Georgian or Russian. In spite of this, we had no problem communicating with the local lady Tamara, using body language. She was amazing, always smiley and helping with everything. She makes wonderful sponge cakes! We will definitely go back.

I would recommend everyone to stay here when visiting Mestia. We had a wonderful time meeting Zolda and Popo (her dog!). The weather was very bad during our hike from Mestia so we had to return a few days later and we were treated like family. A 10/10 experience, despite the rain!
