Is there more to shopping in Hong Kong than just brand-name stores?

Australia Glyn, Australia

Yes. In fact, the brand name stores are expensive in comparison with local retailers, like Fortress. The reason? Brand names appeal to the Mainland Chinese who flock to Hong Kong to find goods that will demonstrate their wealth. It is a case of conspicuous consumption and that is what keeps the Gucci, YSL, Dior, Armani, Louis Vuitton stores and their like in business. It is certainly not local HK buyers who are too canny.

    Style Amidst the Skyscrapers

One of the world’s busiest and most populated cities, Hong Kong is best-known for its stunning skyline with over 1,200 skyscrapers and its “East meets West” cultural mix. With architecture and interior design influenced by feng shui and modern technology, this city is truly unique.

Hong Kong offers plenty of interesting city and thematic tours, ranging from cuisine-oriented, to architecture or nature. The latter is particularly fascinating as Hong Kong has many amazing mountain landscapes, marine parks and the Tian Tan Buddha on Lantau Island is only a ferry ride away.

Kowloon is a busy urban center near Victoria Harbor, where ferries are an excellent choice to see just how tall Hong Kong's buildings actually are. Excellent tax-free shopping can be found in high-class malls, boutiques and street markets.

Hong Kongs’ unique cultural fusion is clearly seen, tasted and heard in the local food, like dim sum from Maxim's Palace or hot pot from street vendors complimented local Cantopop music in the background.

Arriving at Hong Kong International Airport you’re only a short trip from the city center. Whether you’re staying in a chic hotel or a budget hostel, Booking.com has the perfect accommodation for a holiday in Hong Kong.

    • Everything was 5 star and staff included. What you would expect from this rating and the position is superb with peace and quiet after a long day in amongst the mayhem of Hong Kong. Easy and quick hotel shuttle service which takes you to the MTR. All staff were great especially Polly...Thank you

    • Strategic location with many famous eatery around and MTR is just a stone throw away. Room size is amazing for HK hotel standard, even bigger than some 5 stars hotels. Bathroom is spacious with 1 shower room and a jacuzzi bathtub. Stable WIFI and Handy phone is just a great companion for roaming around HK. Minibar is free Would definitely stay here again and I am pleased to recommend this wonderful hotel to everyone visiting Hong Kong!

    • We stayed at the Guangdong hotel for 3 nights sharing a triple room. We all felt the location was good - a short walk to the Star Ferry and well situated in Tsim Sha Tsui to get around Hong Kong. It's not a 5 star facility but then again we didn't pay for one! Definitely recommend and would stay there again.

    • Everything was just great. As a person in hotel industry, I think it's an excellent hotel to stay compare to few 4 and 5 stars in Hong Kong. Mike is the guy to look for. Enjoy

    • Great value for a 5 star hotel and convenient location at Hong Kong Airport. Would recommend to others.
