Lamu is a mesmerizing town with a beautiful history.
Lamu is a mesmerizing town with a beautiful history. The people are very friendly and welcoming. For instance - the town can be like a labyrinth, which makes it a bit challenging sometimes to find spots - even with Google Maps. Either people ask you if you need help or you can ask them and they show you the way - many of them even walked us to the location. This experience was so wonderful - I would definitely come back again.

Great, quaint town.
Great, quaint town. The scent of the donkey excrement is off-putting but seeing them is sublime. Being a coastal town, there are many ‘captains’. I had my transport pre-organized with my accommodation so be weary of that and potential scams, as well as the impromptu tour guides. Touch water, take a sunset sail boat ride, and visit the beach, maybe even Shela. Locals were very nice and friendly, warm welcomes. Affordable restaurants as well, Sailor’s Joint for example. I stayed at Subira House.

A beautiful resort, with many amenities with a lot of details paid to the decor. Unfortunately, not the same attention was given to the 3 restaurants. Poor quality food with a limited selection except for a very nice breakfast buffet. Had confirmed a twin bedded room, but did not receive one. The beds are extremely firm as the mattress sits on a cement platform but does have a nicely hung mosquito net.
Easy access across the water to Lamu.

- The ocean activities are marvelous!
- The ocean activities are marvelous! Amazing experience, memories I will always treasure. Food was also nice, a lot of seafood. Very culturally rich too!
- The town is dirty, because of monkeys, people in Lamu seem to have gotten used to it, but for an outsider its not. In addition, they don't treat the donkeys right, so it's sad to see them suffering. Lamu is a small town, I wish they would think of other means of transport and at least for people just walking, donkeys should be forbidden. There was also a lot of trash on the street, even in monuments.

Lamu is quite a unique place which is different from the main land of Kenya. You can enjoy the historical environment, beautiful beaches, sun rise and sun set, relaxing on the boat/dhow. And Lamu people are very kind to visitors, I love it. Some activities in the sea may be affected by the tide. So, it's better to ask people in advance when you can do the activity you want to do.

The town is quirky and locals are great.
The town is quirky and locals are great. No cars or motorbikes in the center but lot of donkeys. Lamu is really worth to visit! Only thing, its quite dirty, especially the seafront. Plastic every where
The highlight of our stat in Jambo House is Arnold, its owner. He is doing a great job, responds quickly, provides airport pickup, shares a map with all the useful tips and nice places to eat and is at your service if you need to book any kind of trip around Lamu. Furthermore, the breakfast here are lovely and for a bargain price, so definitely don't miss out on them ! In the room, we had all we needed, and it was very quiet, so we slept very well! We will be back!
This is a wonderful place to stay! It's a little haven from the busy lanes of Shela and Lamu Town .... so peaceful and calming. Its pretty garden, pool and relaxing ambience make it a stunning choice to totally unwind.
Yoga and a massage spa are available.
The staff are friendly and personable and the food is excellent. One evening we had a choice of a swahili meal cooked by local women ....incredible !!
We loved our stay and were sad to leave.
Beautiful boutique hotel with large spacious rooms done up in a gorgeous Swahili style and a massive common area, right in the heart of Lamu Old Town's narrow roads. Safari, Johnson and Abu are really great. Safari in particular went out of his way to help us make our stay amazing, such as finding us a dhow captain to organise a private dhow trip. I'd 100% recommend Andavelo House for your Lamu stay.
What I loved most about JamboHouse was its relaxing terrace, the excellent & nutritious breakfast, as well as the owner. Arnold: Not only did he provide me with a series of recommendations of what to do in the island, but he also arranged a couple of tours for me (including a comprehensive tour of Lamu town itself, as well as a visit to Takwa Ruins of Manda island)
Very comfortable stay in a perfect location in the Lamu old town. The price is unbeatable, and it had everything we need to have a comfortable sleep.
Muhammad, Emanuel and their team were super friendly, supportive and professional.
Previous review said negative things about the toilet, but our experience was great. Comfortable clean well managed toilet.
The STAFF are exceptional. Rooms were spacious. Locals called it “the palace”. Everything was marble, high ceilings with fans. Pool was indoors…
having breakfast (to order)each morning was great. The staff,
Safari along with Johnson and Abu are exceptional and were the best part of Lamu for me. Helpful, respectful, kind, patient and knowledgeable!
Location and the hotel architecture are wonderful if you like to stay some historical sites.
If it’s available, book the third floor ocean view suit. Private porch, unbelievable ocean view, you won’t regret it.
Breakfast is remarkably.
Located right behind the Lamu fort.
Staff in hotel are all helpful and friendly.
Beyt Salam is a great house. It was a nice change from staying in Shela as we were right in Lamu. We liked the decoration, the amazing staff (got us a huge jug of water for our room, made us great breakfast, helped us organise a tour of the old town), and the beautiful rooftop.
We definitely recommend this place!
Excellent location with restaurant service from feel good healthy foods. I enjoyed the back access beach route through the dunes that’s a more private beach. Also I loved the farm tours in the same area and the shops with essential oils ,sauna and massage. Such a steal 🙏❤️
All the staff were very friendly and very helpful. The place is very clean. We had a nice room. Also Lamu and Shela are nice small towns and clean. You can stroll around also in the night.
The beaches are not as in Malindi or Diani Beach but it was okay.
Friendly staff.
Excellent breeze with a great view of Shela on the rooftop.
Close to local shops and amenities.
Clean and spacious house.
Boat pickup from airport.
Well equipped kitchen
Price point was spot on! Location fantastic and conveniently close to the airport. Dinner next door at Lamu House was exceptional. Nice alternative to the more expensive Shella.
I had a very nice stay. It is an old, interesting house with so much character. Very comfortable and Kahindi was very helpful to me. Perfect location in the old part of Lamu.
The location is perfect to enjoy shela and lamu and the hotel is very clean
Tom, the charger, is fantastic and the breakfast is very complete and yummy!!
A beautiful, relaxing and serene hotel in a stunning garden right on Shela beach with a laid back vibe. lovely staff, tasty food, beautifully presented.
