Lamu is a mesmerizing town with a beautiful history.

Lamu is a mesmerizing town with a beautiful history. The people are very friendly and welcoming. For instance - the town can be like a labyrinth, which makes it a bit challenging sometimes to find spots - even with Google Maps. Either people ask you if you need help or you can ask them and they show you the way - many of them even walked us to the location. This experience was so wonderful - I would definitely come back again.

    Great, quaint town.

Great, quaint town. The scent of the donkey excrement is off-putting but seeing them is sublime. Being a coastal town, there are many ‘captains’. I had my transport pre-organized with my accommodation so be weary of that and potential scams, as well as the impromptu tour guides. Touch water, take a sunset sail boat ride, and visit the beach, maybe even Shela. Locals were very nice and friendly, warm welcomes. Affordable restaurants as well, Sailor’s Joint for example. I stayed at Subira House.

A beautiful resort, with many amenities with a lot of details paid to the decor. Unfortunately, not the same attention was given to the 3 restaurants. Poor quality food with a limited selection except for a very nice breakfast buffet. Had confirmed a twin bedded room, but did not receive one. The beds are extremely firm as the mattress sits on a cement platform but does have a nicely hung mosquito net. Easy access across the water to Lamu.

    - The ocean activities are marvelous!

    - The ocean activities are marvelous! Amazing experience, memories I will always treasure. Food was also nice, a lot of seafood. Very culturally rich too! - The town is dirty, because of monkeys, people in Lamu seem to have gotten used to it, but for an outsider its not. In addition, they don't treat the donkeys right, so it's sad to see them suffering. Lamu is a small town, I wish they would think of other means of transport and at least for people just walking, donkeys should be forbidden. There was also a lot of trash on the street, even in monuments.

Lamu is quite a unique place which is different from the main land of Kenya. You can enjoy the historical environment, beautiful beaches, sun rise and sun set, relaxing on the boat/dhow. And Lamu people are very kind to visitors, I love it. Some activities in the sea may be affected by the tide. So, it's better to ask people in advance when you can do the activity you want to do.

The town is quirky and locals are great. No cars or motorbikes in the center but lot of donkeys. Lamu is really worth to visit! Only thing, its quite dirty, especially the seafront. Plastic every where

Great location very close to the seafront, super friendly personel, breakfast was simple and good, the roof top has great view which the breakfast lounge is located and our day every morning was starting with lot of energy from the dunes and Manda beach. We loved Florence (a young local lady) which was working at the hotel ,super vivid ,super helpful with the greatest happy smile on the face everyday which made our stay at the hotel most pleasant!!! The swimming pool also, saved our lives....many hot evenings! 😉

The highlight of our stat in Jambo House is Arnold, its owner. He is doing a great job, responds quickly, provides airport pickup, shares a map with all the useful tips and nice places to eat and is at your service if you need to book any kind of trip around Lamu. Furthermore, the breakfast here are lovely and for a bargain price, so definitely don't miss out on them ! In the room, we had all we needed, and it was very quiet, so we slept very well! We will be back!

The STAFF are exceptional. Rooms were spacious. Locals called it “the palace”. Everything was marble, high ceilings with fans. Pool was indoors… having breakfast (to order)each morning was great. The staff, Safari along with Johnson and Abu are exceptional and were the best part of Lamu for me. Helpful, respectful, kind, patient and knowledgeable!

Very beautiful and spacious apartment. There is a nice roof top with an amazing view. It is well located in Shela. The price was very cheap, maybe because of the low season or because it’s still new and some things are missing… They answer fast when you write and the manager was easy to reach in case of anything.

The house is in the heart of Lamu town, so very convenient to go anywhere, also close the the sea front, about 20min by boat to Shela. The rooftop room was amazing, where you can have the sea view at daytime and starry night. And there was an air-con equipped. Zion as the housekeeper were helpful and thoughtful

Lovely accommodation in a heritage building just off the center of Lamu Town. Very close to and easy to find from the pier but phone and they will pick you up at the pier. The terraces and rooftops are wonderful. Staff and owner very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast in the mornings. Would stay again.

I loved everything. They take care about every detail, the staff is extremely kind, and the breakfast is super delicious, with plenty of yummy home made products. We appreciate that Thomas was kind while we lost in Lamu town, and the captain of the boat to Shela had to wait for us 10 minutes or so.

A very beautiful and charming swahili palace. Josh is very nice and helped with everything, even with things not concerning to the accomodation. The room was very big and I could use the Kitchen and the top terrace with very nice views. Best place in Lamu if you want to avoid the fancy resorts.

Beautiful premises, good location, very clean and safe. Exceptional shower (really). Breakfast met expectations. Keep in mind it's a guesthouse not a hotel, so common areas/amenities are limited (but there are comfortable couches and a hammock). They do provide good tourist information.

Location was ok. Close to the main area of Shela and there is a nice view from the resting area. Breakfast was ok also, not buffete and sometimes there were missing things (like toasts) but is ok if u talk with them. Overall I think is good for the price and the type of hotel.

The welcome drink (fresh passion juice) and convenient check in was awesome. I also liked the breakfast, Hamid was accomodative and friendly, too. The place was clean and was reasonably priced. Tom also met us on time at the Shela jetty and carried our luggage, which was nice.

Staff was wonderful. Extremely accommodating. They were able to meet us at the airport and the pier and lead us to the hotel. Which I recommend as the old town area of Lamu is a bit of a maze. The building has super authentic architecture and lots of outdoor areas to relax.
