Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything a city of this scale needs: a fascinating history, great architecture and a friendly atmosphere!
Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town, Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down the Communist rule in Poland initiating the end of the Cold War era.
Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the near-complete destruction during the World War II. The colourful town houses of the Old Town can be admired by boat on the Motlawa River or enjoyed while strolling along the popular Long Street and Long Market.
While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and you make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!
Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com offers a variety of accommodation near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city centre.
Perfect new destination for a three day city break.
Perfect new destination for a three day city break. Although at time of our visit there was a lot of construction work ongoing, this didn't stop us from seeing all the sights and attractions - and there are plenty of them. The World War II museum is especially worth a visit, as is the European Solidarity Centre, not to mention the beautiful buildings and views you will see simply strolling around the super clean streets. Plentiful bars and restaurants to eat and drink in, many with stunning views of the river, the Baltic sea and the city itself.

The Museum of the Second World War has superb exposition.
The Museum of the Second World War has superb exposition. Well prepared and thought out. Definitely recommend. Breathtaking. About 3 hours minimum.
And for technical enthusiast, there is museum ship - retired freighter Sołdek, exposition of National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk. Being a visitor coming from landlocked, I enjoyed the unique opportunity and took the tour.

My recent visit to Gdańsk was an absolute delight!
My recent visit to Gdańsk was an absolute delight! This charming city captivated me from the moment I arrived. The historic Old Town is a treasure trove of architectural wonders, with its colorful facades and cobblestone streets evoking a sense of old-world charm.
Exploring the city's rich history was a highlight of my trip. From the iconic Neptune's Fountain to the majestic St. Mary's Church, there's no shortage of impressive landmarks to discover. The museums offer fascinating insights into Gdańsk's past, particularly the Museum of the Second World War, which left a lasting impression on me.
Gdańsk is also a paradise for food enthusiasts. The local cuisine is a delightful fusion of flavors, with hearty pierogi and fresh seafood being absolute must-tries. I found myself indulging in delectable meals at quaint cafes and restaurants dotted throughout the city.
The vibrant atmosphere of Gdańsk is infectious, with lively street performers and bustling markets adding to the excitement. Whether strolling along the picturesque waterfront or browsing the charming artisan shops, there's always something new and exciting to discover.
Overall, my experience in Gdańsk was nothing short of magical. It's a city that seamlessly blends history, culture, and culinary delights, making it a must-visit destination for travelers of all interests. I can't wait to return and explore even more of this enchanting city!

Despite not being an architect, the historic buildings took my breath away. The old town is generally very clean and maintained. to every place you can go by foot. If using a car, I recommend to learn upfront where the parking places are otherwise you get nerves:)
Do not forget to visit Sopot and Gdynia as well. And when you have some more time, the Slowinski park narodowy with the sand dunes is a must-see.

A lovely city.
A lovely city. I've done a guided tour of the city, went for food and drinks (you must try their winter teas), walked along the river. Also, very easy to go to Malbork from there, which is not to be missed.
The hotel is in a great location, in the Old Town, and not too far to the main train station. We used the taxi from the airport organised by the hotel which suited us. The room was spacious and clean. We had a great view of the river from our window.
We enjoyed the buffet style breakfast. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, as were those in the eating areas. It was good to have a fridge in the room too.
Super! Splendid! Brilliant! Amazing 😘 My best birthday ever. Cosy, clean, well equipt apartment, very nicely done. Fantastic location, short walking distance to Gdansk main attractions. Sandy beach few minutes away (get a cab, it's cheap here). Or take a ship to Sopot to famous pier and sandy beaches. Don't contemplate any more - pack up and go Gdansk! Choose Downtown Apartments Magical River View of course 😉
All staff spoke fluent English, breakfast was excellent. The location is about 10-15 minutes walk from the centre of the old town but you have to cross a busy highway and tram route to get there, not a problem, underground routes and road crossings above ground. Bus transfer to airport about 100m from hotel, number 210, runs every 30 mins and costs approx 60p, unbelievable!
Very clean, new, well-equipped, modern hotel in top tourist location of old Town Gdańsk. Very comfy beds, spacious bath and overall nice and comfy rooms. Didn't try breakfast, so can't comment on that. But there were plenty of nice restaurants to try a different breakfast nearby, at half of the extra price the hotel charged for breakfast normally. So that fit us best.
Excellent location in the middle of the Old Town. The hotel is modern, clean and well kept. Spacious room and bathroom, comfortable bed. Excellent air-conditioning: very efficient and very quiet. The room has a kettle with a tea/coffe selection and a fridge which is restocked with free water every day. All members of staff are friendly and helpful.
AMAZING! absolutely perfect!!! best hotel in Poland. location is unbelivable- near to everything. the price is fare. they have hot beverages (good) free for charge the whole day. the staff is friendly. they accept dogs and provide goos bowls for them. they also have free bikes :) The hotel design is super inspiring.
I am going to return definetly!
The overall style is impressive and welcoming. There are two kitchens in the fridge, with enough space for however much food you might have!
The spaces are kept clean, both the kitchen and the private rooms (though you are never safe from smelly roommates).
The bathrooms are the best I've seen in any hostel in Poland (I've visited 6)
Hotel is relatively close to the old town, if a 20 minutes walk is not a problem for you. Quiet neighbourhood, the street to reach the hotel is made of rocks, so be careful while driving. Breakfast is ok. The room on a ground floor we have stayed at is spacious, has a kitchen and a refrigerator which might be very useful, but...
Perfect location, 1 minute from the main tourist area, silent, clean. Free coffee 24/7 at the reception for the guests. Very helpful hotel staff in the evening (two young ladies most of the days). Great breakfast, although quite expensive (but it's a common thing in Poland, breakfast outside would not be cheaper).
This is incredibly stylish accommodation with modern facilities in a repurposed mental hospital. Quiet. Probably the best hotel breakfast of our four weeks in Poland and Germany. The only one of the hotels we stayed in which had self service laundry and ironing facilities; big plus.
Great apartment.. It was very modern and beautiful.. No doubt one of the best place I stayed in Poland so far.
Location is brilliant.. just odd five minutes away from the beach and only two minutes to the supermarket and there is a nice pub also..
Enough space in the apartment.
The best thing about this hotel is the location just few steps away from the heart of old town. Rooms are spacious and new. We liked the breakfast and wellness zone of this hotel – there is a pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Wifi worked well and staff was nice too.
A nice small hotel in a quiet part of the city, abt 15 minutes by car to Old Town.
New (or renovated) building, friendly staff, very clean rooms, tasty breakfast,
tea/coffee/wine (!) available 24/7 :)
Spacious private parking as well.
The hotel is very close to old town and we could see the back of St. John's church from our window. The breakfast was good, the room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful just as in most of our chosen properties.
This hotel is great! The building has been renovated to a very high standard, while retaining lots of the original features. The location is close to the Old Town and to the river, so it's perfect. Highly recommend!
