With a long and rich history, Lagos is nowadays a famous beach resort of the sunny Portuguese region of Algarve. Including wide sandy beaches and quiet coves enclosed by ochre cliffs, it also offers a lively city centre with one of the best mixes between history and modernity in the region.
King Henry the Navigator chose it as a base for his trips of discovery during the 15th century, and later on, it became the residence of the Algarve governors. The Old Town is circled by medieval walls, typical narrow streets, historic buildings and charming squares. B&B’s and hotels in Lagos’s historic centre allow you to enjoy these picturesque surroundings.
Apart from being an important centre for sailing, the city has amazing beaches, like Meia Praia or Praia da Dona Ana. Resorts and hotels on Lagos’ beaches are the perfect choice for sun lovers, while the hotels near the modern Lagos Marina are popular, as they are both close to the centre and the railway station.
The city is 90 km from Faro Airport, and 24 km from Portimão. Check out the Lagos hotels deals on Booking.com before travelling!

Old town Lagos is a gem.
Old town Lagos is a gem. Being on the ocean and the beautiful coast. It is easy to rent a car and use Lagos as a home base. Silves is beautiful and a must see. It is the orange capital of Portugal. Taveria is another gem. The fresh squeezed orange juice in Portugal is the best I’ve ever had.

My brief stay in Lagos, Portugal, was nothing short of magical. Nestled along the stunning Algarve coast, this city proved to be a treasure trove of experiences, packed into just one night. The warm, welcoming vibe of the locals set the tone for an unforgettable visit. Strolling through the vibrant streets of the historic centre, I was enchanted by the blend of traditional architecture and lively bars and cafes, each telling its own story of the city's rich heritage.
As the sun set, the city transformed, with the golden hues of the coastline giving way to a lively nightlife that pulsed with energy and music. The highlight of my stay was the breathtaking beauty of the beaches, where the cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean meet, offering serene views that etch into memory.
Dining in Lagos was a culinary adventure, with local seafood dishes that tantalised the taste buds, each bite infused with the flavours of the Algarve. Even within the span of a night, Lagos captivated my heart with its picturesque landscapes, vibrant culture, and the unmistakable charm of a city that dances to the rhythm of the sea.
Though my visit was brief, the memories of Lagos are vivid and enduring, a testament to the city's ability to enchant and inspire. It's a place where history, culture, and natural beauty converge, creating a travel experience that's as rich as it is memorable. Lagos, with its undeniable allure, is a destination I look forward to exploring further, with more nights to uncover its many wonders.

lovely city for a quiet holiday.
lovely city for a quiet holiday. Very slow-moving ideal for a holiday. The food was good eating out. Very friendly and patient people. The local beer was cool. lovely views. Quiet clean beaches. Many natures sight seeing. Tourist boat trips everywhere.
The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. The facilities exceeded expectations - amazing outdoor pool, indoor pool, sauna etc. An outstanding continental buffet breakfast was included and was the highlight of our mornings. The hotel is located a short walk from the Lagos Old Town which makes it easy to get to shops and restaurants and experience the town. The restaurant at the hotel serves spectacular Portugese dinners - definitely one of our best meals of the trip. All in all we had a great stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at Palmares. The hotel is at a beautiful location on the golf course with great ocean view, a few minutes drive to Lagos town center. The room is modern with top amenities, it also comes with a super king bed that is very comfortable. The balcony has great ocean view with Logas town in the back drop. All the staffs are very nice, breakfast is great as well. We wish we could stay longer, definitely stay here again if we come back to Algarve.
The restaurant and restaurant staff were amazing. Honestly, they made the hotel stay awesome. Due to weather conditions, I ate in the restaurant daily and service and food were both outstanding. Excellent selection, 5 star service! The breakfast staff were also good but the breakfast lacked imagination and eggs and meats, as well as coffee, were always lukewarm at best. Dinner menus and chef more than made up for that.
We loved everything! Exceeded our expectations! The bed is super comfy, the towels and bedding are top quality. Every hotel should take a lesson for comfort and quality from Dom Manuel. The shower is amazing. The breakfast is very good. I could suggest some cereal options. Location is close to the old town and up hill so you can work off everything you ate.
The hotel was modern and bright. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was very good and they even let us in to have early breakfast on the day we were leaving.
Although the hotel is not on the beach the beautiful beach at Porto de Mos is very close and takes less than 10 minutes along a path to get to it.
This property is perfect for a Lagos getaway! We were able to enjoy the views of the marina, walk around in old town, and visit a couple nearby beaches and towns easily. Sam at the front desk gave us great recommendations and Kareem at the rooftop bar supplied delicious food and drinks! Top tier service at a top tier hotel!
I cant understand why it is rated 3 stars or called a guesthouse. It is far more exclusive than many 4 or 5 stars hotel i've been to.
Its remarkebly clean. The rooms are bjg. Private clean swimming pool, the design is great and very welciming. Beds are huge and VERY comfortable.
The hotel is in a great location, just a few minutes walk from the main area/pedestrian zone. The rooms are really nice and clean. The hotel restaurant offers 5 star cuisine at a reasonable price and amazing and unique drinks. The staff was really lovely and helpful, too.
It was in a perfect location, directly in the heart of the old town of Lagos. Not far from the beautiful beaches and the marina.
The staff was very very friendly, told us a lot about Lagos and what we could do here. Showed us on the map the best places to go.
From start to finish with the help from Jorge it was truly a 5 star service. Apartment is immaculate and bang in the centre of Lagos. If your not staying here, your missing out. Cannot recommend this highly enough. Absolutely fantastic stay and made our trip
Unfortunately got food poisoning in Lagos (not from the hotel) so ended up spending a lot more time in the hotel room than originally planned. It was a great place to convalesce. Extremely comfy bed. Amazing breakfast.
A wonderful hotel with a great view to the marina, a spacious room and a bathroom, wide and comfortable beds, breakfast with a big choice, nice staff, a wonderful swimming pool on the roof, in a lovely place of Lagos.
Lovely hotel. Fantastic views of the marina off our private small patio. Extremely pleasant and helpful staff. Rooms are very clean and nice. Rooftop pool and sitting area was awesome. Definitely stay here again
I’ve genuinely never slept on a more comfortable bed before; the location is extremely out of the way, so get an Uber, but it is worth it because you are walking distance from the best beaches in Lagos.
Beautiful property. Excellent location near the beach. Most helpful staff. The breakfast buffet surpassed my expectations and the restaurant at the hotel called Senses was SPECTACULAR
Great room. Everything was very clean and proper. Hotel is a 5 minute walk away from Lagos Marina with vibrant hangouts and restaurants. Pool area was nice. Small but nice.
We had an excellent stay at the Dom Pedro in Lagos. We had a sea view room that was very comfortable. The hotel is right across the road from the beach.
