Helena is very kind helpful and welcoming and made our stay very comfortable. The area is beautiful, the house is in the perfect location to explore the north part/north west, and spend time in the capital city.
House has huge en-suite rooms and a great size well-equipped kitchen, living room, and terrace with outdoor furniture.
We had dinner every day in Sao Vicente (5 min by car) Restaurante Calamar. Excellent food, and we were happy with everything we tried.
I am sure will go and stay here next time when we'll visit the island.

Sao Vicente is a great base for exploring the north of the island without really having a huge amount going for it per se (nothing negative). But Seixal is only a few km away and is my favourite village on the island! Sao Vicente does have a few ok restaurants by the sea but I had better meal experiences elsewhere during my trip. The local caves are closed for the next year or so.

The village is absolutely beautiful.
The village is absolutely beautiful. Ideal for walking around. The views are just stunning, especially if you walk on top of the hill where the small chapel is. It's just difficult to get there if you want to use public transport. Buses there are a nightmare. We were lucky enough that our previous host took us there from Funchal. Otherwise we would struggle as nobody whom we asked in Funchal knew where the bus stop was for bus going to Sao Vicente.

Sao Vicente is a small town on the north side of Madeira, rather less well known than most of the south side of the island. It has an interesting old church, a garden of indigenous trees (for plant enthusiasts), volcanic caves and interpretation centre (for geology enthusiasts) and several good restaurants (for foodies!).
From Sao Vicente you can travel along the north coast; westwards to Seixal and Porto Moniz, eastwards to Boaventura, Sao Jorge or Santana. Drive inland to Encumeada, the starting point for several superb hikes, or drive up to the Paul da Serra moorlands.
The roads around here are in good condition and easy to drive, there's not much traffic and the local drivers are quite considerate.
I've visited this area at various times of the year, for hiking and plant spotting, and there's always something new.
Food and drink? No problems! There is everything from simple roadside bars where you can share your coffee break with the locals to top quality restaurants serving authentic Madeiran dishes.

We saw very little of Sao Vicente on our short trip, since we were mainly occupied either seeing the sights in Funchal or else visiting along the coast to the East and West, rather than actually digging deeper locally. No time for a meal out, even though the hotel dining room was no good in the evenings. We've done a lot of caves before, so did not want to committ to that. So all we did was drive through it about six times without stopping to visit! Next time maybe, as it looks a good, if small, place to see more of.
The garden is stunningly beautiful and peaceful and the pool is a good size and looks inviting.
The property is surrounded by mountains and is alive with bird song. There is a very good restaurant within easy walking distance. Sao Vicente ,a short drive away, is a is a pleasant place to walk around and has good restaurants and shops.
Rooms were of a good size and beds were comfortable with sufficient blankets and the hot water bottle was a thoughtful touch. We enjoyed a levada walk nearby and visiting the north coast.
Beautiful accommodation, newly renovated, beautiful garden with pool, fantastic location overlooking the green hills of Sao Vicente and the ocean. Everything perfectly clean, room comfortable. There is a shared kitchenette with a microwave, refrigerator and a seating area, so it's nice if you want to prepare a snack for a trip. Different varieties of wine are grown in the garden, which can be tasted for free. Parking place in the shade of grape trees. Staff very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this accommodation.
Close to the nice part of São Vicente, which is the older center (and not by the sea). A really nice well kept house in a quiet neighborhood with a pool (though we didn’t use it). Nice to have a fully equipped kitchen and a proper seating area and everything felt pretty new and fresh. Good parking lot with an automatic gate. We never met Duarte, but he was very helpful via the app and gave us all the information and help we needed by text.
The location was outstanding with the ocean right outside the window and next door were plenty of bakeries for breakfast, restaurants for lunch and dinner, bars for relaxing and a supermarket too for everything else. It was also easy to get everywhere in north and western Madeira from Sao Vicente. The apartment was spacious, pleasant, and had all the essentials.
Teresa, our host, was very thoughtful. The apartment is lovely and very nice fitted and perfect stuffed. We missed nothing. Thank you Teresa for everything.
The location is also perfect - you need a car, but then all areas are reachable very fast.
Sao Vicente has very good restaurants, which are only 10 min. away and a supermarket is nearby.
Loved the size and view but the decor is outdated and leaking and even though it’s quaint the extra services aren’t worth it. Breakfast is the same Madeira breakfast that is so outdated. Fresh croissants are easy yeh? Only one place in Madeira has it! I’ve completed reviews for all hotels. Freshen up they need to Madeira
Absolutely everything! it was stunning and we were speechless. We were expecting it to be beautiful but this was way better than our expectations! This whole place was the best part of our whole two weeks Madeira trip and we fell in love with Granny’s farm and also Sao Vicente. We will definitely be back. Thank you!
A Casa Estrelícia-Dourada Garcês was a beautiful place to stay! We had a fantastic few days exploring the north of the Island. Sao Vicente is a lovely small town with so much to offer. Thanks to Elda & Leonel for their warm hospitality, excellent local tips, and the wonderful Madeiran wine - a must try!
The apartment is very clean and well equipped. The location is also good, Sao Vicente is one of our favourite places on Madeira. Near the apartment is restaurant ‘Taberna de Sao Vicente’, we highly recommended it if you want tasty and affordable food. The bakery in the main streat is also very good!
Spectacular views. the sea practically laps up against the building. the sound of the waves is very relaxing. Sao Vicente has a couple of supermarkets and restaurants. Comfortable living space and bed and very well equipped. The host kindly provided lots of complimentary local produce on arrival.
I can’t imagine a more perfect place in São Vicente. For the price of a hotel room you can be on a comfortable apartment in the center of the village. There are restaurants and a market in easy walking distance. Filipe is a wonderful and helpful host. Great views from my balcony.
Incredibly surreal hotel in the Sao Vicente Valley. Beautiful views of mountains everywhere and pristine hotel grounds with a pool warm enough for the cloudy/cooler evening and cool enough for the sunny/warm days. I also enjoyed the sauna and pool bar! :)
the hotel is magnificent, the rooms, the views, the decoration inside the house. The swimming pool and outside garden space.
Great breakfast and wonderful staff.
We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to everybody visiting Madeira.
Good location, easy walk to Sao Vicente and restaurants. Easy to park the car on property. Host checked that all was okay with us and made helpful recommendations about what to see and do. Property was clean and there were plenty of toiletries.
Location was perfect, communication with the house owner was pleasant, nice surrounding (supermarket, nature and gas station), view to the village. Nice fully equipped kitchen (permanently available) and the hall with the fire place.
Family run hotel where everything is perfect. Very kind owner, perfect breakfast, scenic views from rooms, swimming pool, beautiful nature all around and very convenient location.
