Zvezda Hotel Very good 8.2 The staff were very friendly and spoke English. The room was very clean and presentable. The Chinese restaurant serves excellent meals. The Russian/European restaurant has an excellent food, including game. The spa in the basement has a good masseuse. The secure parking area at the front of the hotel was very welcome. Wifi was good. Would definitely stay there again
Angara Hotel Good 7.6 I stayed here for one night . Found it to be clean and comfortble, everything I expected in a budget hotel and even more. Staff is very flexible to client needs. Got checked in very quickly, reception personnel were very polite, sorted me a taxi for early morning and when I had to leave b4 I could have breakfast I got organised one to take-out. Good location within a walking distance to all Irkutsk attractions. Value for money. I would consider staying there again.
Dobriy Kot Very good 8.5 One of the two closets places to stay to the IRKUTSK PASS train station. You can walk here from the station in 10-15 minutes. Head over the road from the station and up the obvious staircase, take care, the steps aren't well maintained. Then wend your way through a back road until you reach Gorgolya and turn right. Rumanyentsev is the a few streets along Contrary to Google maps, you'll want to turn right onto RUMANYENTSEV not left, and the hotel is in the newer block on the left. The sign, DOBRY KOT - with a cat on it is easy to spot. Great English speaking reception. Wifi was awful the night we arrive, but great in the morning. Russia Today (English speaking) channel on the TV if you're missing the news at all. Our room shared a bathroom with one other room. Good, decent sized rooms, a proper large double bed (probably a kingsize), desk, chair, two bedsid tables and a wardrobe. The rain on the tin roof outside was a distraction that our Trans-Siberian weariness overcame quickly. GREAT GREAT shower, and clean bathroom. Super, well equipped (stove top, microwave, several tables and chairs) kitchen. There's also apparently a laundry, which we didn't use, but a fab relief from the train, and great location, with good facilities. Stayed a second night after the CircumBaikal.. Triple room with private bath, again, all great, apart from spotty Internet.
Hotel Rus Good 7.5 Quite well located in what is a very spread out city. Whilst the exterior was being renovated, the interior was nice. Excellent alpine style restaurant that served until 2300 and actually had the items shown on the menu. The lake Baikal fish was excellent. We had to leave early on the last morning and the hotel gave us a very comprehensive picnic breakfast to have on the train.
Art House Hotel Pleasant 6.4 Only location was great, very close to the city centre, tram station and supermarket.
Irkutsk Apartment Pleasant 6.8 Really liked that room was clean, all stuff was new and working. Location is good enough. Free wi-fi was really free and with normal speed.
Jam Hotel Good 7
