Mvuvi Resort Wonderful 9.1 Words cannot describe how much we loved our stay at Mvuvi resort last week. My husband and I came here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary after climbing Kilimanjaro and our 5 days were perfect. The resort is small - however that means that all the service is personal and it is very quiet. Alessandro - the manager - is friendly, approachable and frequently checks to make sure your stay is perfect. The rooms, bar and restaurant are stylish but relaxed. The beach in front of the resort is an idyllic and there are a few bars and hotels to walk to if you want some variety. We had half-board - which always concerns us - however the food was incredibly delicious. In fact - we became used to a fabulous 4 course meal every night. In particular as we were celebrating our anniversary the manager arranged for us to have an open air private meal one night on the beach comprising of a seafood grill - it was generous and unforgettable. The massages were excellent, and one day the manager facilitated a snorkelling trip on the Mnemba Atoll which we would recommend. Overall - we couldn't recommend this resort more highly - we WILL be back.
Bluebay Beach Resort & Spa Very good 8.5 Great views, pool, bar, great food and staff. Nice big beds too. Loved it
Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Very good 8.5 It was our dream come true after the end of a perfect safari experience in East Africa. Food and drinks were perfect in the package and the changing of different dinner venues in the evening was fun - pizza at the beach, dinner around the pool, dinner down on the sand and dinner in the main dining area- If we were fortunate enough to ever return we would probably stay in the beach front rooms. In saying that, our room was very close to the pool so water aerobics in the morning was very convenient. The staff were great and got to know you (and your drinks!) and there were lots of pool/beach side chairs to lie around on, plenty to do in the day if you wanted to or lots of relax time if that was your thing. Highly recommend Sandies and definitely value for money.
Kiwengwa Beach Resort Pleasant 6.9 The location of the resort on the east coast of Zanzibar, with a reef providing sheltered warm water to swim and an onshore breeze to keep relatively cool. Whilst the tide did go out far we never unable to swim. We didn't originally know or opt for an all inclusive meal package, there are no near by meal alternatives plus there isn't an ability to self-cater, it was therefor a necessity to go the inclusive route. The inclusive option also changes the dynamic of the holiday removing the need to spend anytime or effort on meal time discussions, if different meal experiences is an important holiday requirement then this wouldn't have been a good option. We just adjusted our experience expectations. The resort (and it seems like the whole stretch of coast we were on) is like "little Italy" - the locals speak Swahili and some Italian with little English - though the resort staff were fluent in English for our needs, this isn't a negative, just something to be aware of and we had simple conversations with other holiday makers there.
