Exploring Los Angeles, the place where movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the end point of the fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the canals that earned the area its name.
Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.
And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalize celebrities of past and present. Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.
Over the hill is Universal Studios, with behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.
Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).
“Great atmosphere, great locale, best place to stay in West Hollywod.”
“Minutes from beach, shops and restaurants. Comfortable rooms. Nice poolside area.”
“All the convenience surrounding the hotel premises !! You name it, you have it... 2 supermarkets, eateries, restaurants with all different cuisines. Shuttle pick-up timing is good !!”
“This is one of the nicest budget accommodations Ive stayed so far. For 47 bucks for a double in downtown LA, its great.Only the shower is outside the room, sink&toilet is ensuite! Nice breakfast.Comfy room.Free leave-baggage.Free Wifi.Free printouts.Free popcorn in the afternoon.Movie room.Washing load only1.25$.Nice staff.Microwave, grill and fridge to use,no kitchen though.”
“Great hotel, excellent location for the Hopon Hopoff buses and other tours leaving virtually over the road at the Chinese Theatre”
“Amazing service--friendly, helpful, smiling, and charming young people. The desk staff helped me in many ways--one of them even emailed a paper I needed to his own email address and printed the missing pages for me after I had trouble getting all of it printed at the business center! Valet parking attendants were also very helpful and nice to talk to. I think I was the oldest person there as it is a hot spot for young hipsters, but I enjoyed the scene and felt welcome. (I am a Mom in her 60s). I swam in the heated infinity pool in the early morning and had it all to myself with an amazing roof top view of LA--the night before the roof was wall to wall with young people hanging out together. I highly recommend the crispy poached egg with spinach, lardons, and grits for breakfast--the waiter told me it was a new dish and wanted to know how I liked it--it was delicious!”
“I love this Travelodge, it has everything you could possibly want or need, and all the staff are so super friendly and helpful. If you want a lovely little hotel to stay in while in the chaos of lax, this is definately the one ! Ditch the big hotels, this one is perfect ...”
“The staff are superb, location, facilities and room just add to the experience. Exceptionally comfortable bed and the concierge team are the best.”
“The staff were great... Helpful, friendly, attentive. The rooms were amazing. The hotel gives the extra little touches you really appreciate. And the location couldn't be better. Santa Monica is gorgeous and a shoppers haven. Would be very happy to return.”
“My wife and I stayed at the Farmer's Daughter for the second time and we really enjoyed our stay again. It's the best place to stay in LA!”
“From the time we checked in, we were taken care of. Frederick took care of us and helped us to check in early and set the tone for the rest of the team at Loews. Friendly, helpful, full of smiles, you wont go wrong staying here. Great location. Close to supermarket, pharmacy and the metro. You will enjoy your stay here!!”
“Everything about The Line hotel was amazing. The facilities were trendy, modern, clean. The staff went above and beyond with every request. I cannot wait to stay back here again!”
“I was blown away by Shutters. From the moment you walk in, it's like a different world. The atmosphere is so....'happy'! The lounge area is sumptuous and welcoming and the cocktails (we were there for the mixologist) were the best I've ever tried. The room was just WOW! So comfortable and all the little details (yoyo and juggling balls for example!) made it one of our best and most unique experiences in California. The breakfast was perfect, the staff so helpful and the concierge seemed to know exactly what we would love when we asked about finding a restaurant. I can't express how much I loved it. I almost didn't review it because I wanted to keep it secret so I can always get a room!! FAB-U-LOUS!”
“the convenience of walking a block to work at the fashion mart. the staff was wonderful and the hip vibe was fun excellent restaurant and great coffee in the morning”
“The staff were very friendly and helpful in all respects. The room was of a decent size with plenty of room to move around Great value for money”
“This hotel is a gem! The proximity to Downtown Los Angeles was great. The neighborhood was a little seedy but the hotel was locked and had security and the hotel property and surrounding area was well lit ... parking lot was lit well too and right at front door. The room was very nice and recently remodeled. I would definitely stay again; staff was helpful and friendly.”
“The location for downtown Hollywood is great with a convenient mall a minutes walk away. It was quite a drive away from Santa Monika beach area but worth a drive down. Major attractions were close from hotel. Would recommend to do car rental, best way to get around.”
“Very well appointed old world hotel. You know you are in a place full of history around you. Very nice place, but unfortunately not the best area of downtown Los Angeles. It is a one time stay for us, but do not regret it all all, and still will recommend it for the experience.”
“The hotel was just a few minutes' walk from the Hollywood-Western metro stop which provided easy and cheap access to attractions in downtown Hollywood (e.g. Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre, etc). The pool area and general retro vibe of the hotel was a big selling point. Complimentary breakfast next door was generous and tasty.”
