keep away from chain restaurants and visit some of the local mom and pop diners, dives and drive ins that are everywhere offering food of every ethnicity. if it makes you feel any better they all have a "grade" displayed from the health department.

Hotels that guests love in Los Angeles

  • Hotel is centrally located in Downtown Los Angeles. The breakfast is fine and staff is helpful.

  • The location for downtown Hollywood is great with a convenient mall a minutes walk away. It was quite a drive away from Santa Monika beach area but worth a drive down. Major attractions were close from hotel. Would recommend to do car rental, best way to get around.

  • Very well appointed old world hotel. You know you are in a place full of history around you. Very nice place, but unfortunately not the best area of downtown Los Angeles. It is a one time stay for us, but do not regret it all all, and still will recommend it for the experience.

Mature couple from the United States
  • Location next to Dolby Theatre, shops, Chinese Theatre and in the middle of Hollywood was terrific. And we had a marvellous view of the Hollywood sign as promised. Highly recommended! Very close to a Metro station, utilise it for a cheap ride downtown or Santa Monica. Also go to the free Griffith observatory for fab views, particularly sunset, free public telescope viewing and good Planetarium shows. Taxi was about $40 each way so try to book the free hotel chauffeur car or take the metro to Sunset-Vermont and catch the bus up.

    Janet, Mature couple from Australia
  • The hotel was just a few minutes' walk from the Hollywood-Western metro stop which provided easy and cheap access to attractions in downtown Hollywood (e.g. Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre, etc). The pool area and general retro vibe of the hotel was a big selling point. Complimentary breakfast next door was generous and tasty.

The Hotel California Good 7.9 great place, very authentic, cool, relaxed, right near the beach, little back gate access and you're overlooking (and almost on) the beach and pier. relaxed staff, helpful and one of the best breakfast muffins i've ever had! well recommended
The Standard, Hollywood Good 7.7 Location was perfect, close to many major attractions and in on of the most popular Hollywood spots on Sunset Blvd. The food at the restaurant was excellent and a very good value for the service and price. Our bed was very comfortable, and service was friendly and prompt. I had read stories about the hotel not being friendly to families with young children but I found those reviews to be untrue. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful and we never felt unwelcome.
Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel Good 7.7 The staff were incredible! Every staff member I interacted with was exceptionally warm and friendly, and the management truly went out of their way to ensure my comfort- including a very generous free upgrade when I had to change rooms. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this location!!
Custom Hotel LAX, a Joie de Vivre Boutique Hotel Good 7.6 Close to LAX but minimal aircraft noise. Excellent staff, very friendly and helpful. Close to cafes, restaurant's and bus route to the beach. Nice pool and bar. Much nicer than the bigger airport hotels.
Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel Excellent 8.7 We loved the location and feel of this hotel. It was 4 * and obviously catered for a lot more guests that were VIP and had more $ than we had but it didn't feel like this at all. We were an average couple from UK but were not made to feel this way. The location is excellent and we loved it. Very easy location to get around. We had a fab time and have already recommended to others.
The Standard, Downtown LA Very good 8.1 Amazing service--friendly, helpful, smiling, and charming young people. The desk staff helped me in many ways--one of them even emailed a paper I needed to his own email address and printed the missing pages for me after I had trouble getting all of it printed at the business center! Valet parking attendants were also very helpful and nice to talk to. I think I was the oldest person there as it is a hot spot for young hipsters, but I enjoyed the scene and felt welcome. (I am a Mom in her 60s). I swam in the heated infinity pool in the early morning and had it all to myself with an amazing roof top view of LA--the night before the roof was wall to wall with young people hanging out together. I highly recommend the crispy poached egg with spinach, lardons, and grits for breakfast--the waiter told me it was a new dish and wanted to know how I liked it--it was delicious!
Travelodge Hotel at LAX Good 7.5 Close to the airport. The shuttle was on time
Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows Very good 8.3 First class service from all the staff - so helpful and accommodating. The size of the signature ocean view room was excellent. We will definitely be back!
Motel 6 Hollywood Good 7.4 Walk to everything, cheap parking, quite location and the Wifi worked good. Desk folks were very helpful.
Shore Hotel Very good 8.5 Location, staffs, room, pool area
Farmer's Daughter Hotel Very good 8.4 location friendly & helpful staff fun decor
Loews Hollywood Hotel Excellent 8.6 The location of the hotel is excellent. The room and bathroom are large and well appointed. The staff especially the concierge staff were helpful and friendly.
Shutters On The Beach Excellent 8.6 I was blown away by Shutters. From the moment you walk in, it's like a different world. The atmosphere is so....'happy'! The lounge area is sumptuous and welcoming and the cocktails (we were there for the mixologist) were the best I've ever tried. The room was just WOW! So comfortable and all the little details (yoyo and juggling balls for example!) made it one of our best and most unique experiences in California. The breakfast was perfect, the staff so helpful and the concierge seemed to know exactly what we would love when we asked about finding a restaurant. I can't express how much I loved it. I almost didn't review it because I wanted to keep it secret so I can always get a room!! FAB-U-LOUS!
Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles Very good 8.4 While the building and accommodations are amazing the staff at the Ace Hotel are truly the stars. Their friendly and helpful demeanour set a tone which all guests seem to follow. The Ace is not 'too cool for school' it is just right!
Hotel Figueroa Downtown Los Angeles Good 7.2 Then pool & the individuality of the hotel ...

    City of Dreams

Exploring Los Angeles, the place where movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the end point of the fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the canals that earned the area its name.

Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.

And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalize celebrities of past and present. Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

Over the hill is Universal Studios, with behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.

Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).
