Exploring Los Angeles, the place where movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the end point of the fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the canals that earned the area its name.
Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.
And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalize celebrities of past and present. Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.
Over the hill is Universal Studios, with behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.
Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).
“What a great little hotel. The people were friendly, the food good, the room beautifully re-furbished. This is a grand art deco experience. A real original. The most comfortable bed I've ever slept in - including mine at home.”
“People the food the booze and location.”
“The Accommodation was lovely and extremely. comfortable.”
“We can recommend this place to 100 %. Everything went great. Top of the line !!!”
“The hotel is beautiful. Having free access to things like the ping pong table, movie theater and lounge to play games in was a great way to end the evenings while traveling with my underage sister. The set up makes it possible and comfortable to meet fellow travelers. Sharing a bathroom was no problem at all, Just felt like going down the hall to use the toilet like you would in any home and having the sinks in the rooms was perfectly suitable for any bathroom getting ready things you don't want to rush through.”
“Amazing service--friendly, helpful, smiling, and charming young people. The desk staff helped me in many ways--one of them even emailed a paper I needed to his own email address and printed the missing pages for me after I had trouble getting all of it printed at the business center! Valet parking attendants were also very helpful and nice to talk to. I think I was the oldest person there as it is a hot spot for young hipsters, but I enjoyed the scene and felt welcome. (I am a Mom in her 60s). I swam in the heated infinity pool in the early morning and had it all to myself with an amazing roof top view of LA--the night before the roof was wall to wall with young people hanging out together. I highly recommend the crispy poached egg with spinach, lardons, and grits for breakfast--the waiter told me it was a new dish and wanted to know how I liked it--it was delicious!”
“Close to the airport. The shuttle was on time”
“everything. staff was great especially alex and tony. tony helps with your luggage, among other things, and is just a funny and humorous dude. his welcome gave a good start to the visit. alex is just very very helpful. breakfast was great and quality items. a lot of thought goes into what happens at this hotel.”
“We normally stay at name brand hotels so I was a little nervous booking this hotel. I have to say we really enjoyed our stay and I would book this hotel again.”
“- Loved the LA style of the hotel and it's decor; - Good room layout, perfect shower too; - Awesome rooftop pool and sun beds; - Complimentary non-alcoholic drinks in the mini-bar and well-priced alcoholic ones were a nice touch; - Friendly staff.”
“Location. View to Hollywood sign. Helpful staff. Clean, comfortable, modern room. Free wifi. Fast valet parking.”
“The line was a great hotel with excellent staff and great rooms. We felt very welcome there. There private car service was excellent thanks peter park!”
“I was blown away by Shutters. From the moment you walk in, it's like a different world. The atmosphere is so....'happy'! The lounge area is sumptuous and welcoming and the cocktails (we were there for the mixologist) were the best I've ever tried. The room was just WOW! So comfortable and all the little details (yoyo and juggling balls for example!) made it one of our best and most unique experiences in California. The breakfast was perfect, the staff so helpful and the concierge seemed to know exactly what we would love when we asked about finding a restaurant. I can't express how much I loved it. I almost didn't review it because I wanted to keep it secret so I can always get a room!! FAB-U-LOUS!”
“Great location! Also amazing coffee shop downstairs, and beautiful rooftop bar and patio. Friendly staff, who were helpful and provided great recommendations in LA.”
“Then pool & the individuality of the hotel ...”
“This hotel is a gem! The proximity to Downtown Los Angeles was great. The neighborhood was a little seedy but the hotel was locked and had security and the hotel property and surrounding area was well lit ... parking lot was lit well too and right at front door. The room was very nice and recently remodeled. I would definitely stay again; staff was helpful and friendly.”
“The location for downtown Hollywood is great with a convenient mall a minutes walk away. It was quite a drive away from Santa Monika beach area but worth a drive down. Major attractions were close from hotel. Would recommend to do car rental, best way to get around.”
“Very well appointed old world hotel. You know you are in a place full of history around you. Very nice place, but unfortunately not the best area of downtown Los Angeles. It is a one time stay for us, but do not regret it all all, and still will recommend it for the experience.”
“The hotel was just a few minutes' walk from the Hollywood-Western metro stop which provided easy and cheap access to attractions in downtown Hollywood (e.g. Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre, etc). The pool area and general retro vibe of the hotel was a big selling point. Complimentary breakfast next door was generous and tasty.”
