“clean room, good bed, smelled good inside room. Staff very friendly. Price was reasonable.”
“I stayed at the Highlander two nights, August 1 and 11, 2014, in room 107 both nights, $55 (including tax and fees) each night. I was on a long road trip to.from Colorado from/to my home in Northwestern Oregon and I needed a halfway point that I could afford and would be clean, safe and comfortable. I found it very difficult as the hotels at the halfway point that I considered either were ridiculously expensive, so out of my price range; or were reasonably priced with scary reviews. I had my doubts about the Highlander as it had good reviews but few. By way of explanation, I am a poorly paid researcher. I travel a lot but must do so on a shoe string. So I look for places that are clean, safe and comfortable. Finding them can be a bit of a challenge but they do exist. They also have their quirks. I ignore reviews that complain about things being dated or worn because those folks aren't looking for what I'm looking for. Heck, they probably want their covers turned down at night and mints left on their pillows. By contrast, I'm cool with a room that's like spending a night at my distant cousin's place. Believe me, if I'm couch surfing with distant relatives, I don't complain about the torn towels; at least they're clean. Traveling like I do means appreciating places for their quirks. The Highlander is one of these. I was a bit bummed to arrive and not find a steak house. Seems there was one there many years ago but no more. No need to replace the sign, everyone just knows there's no steak house. And no hot tub either; same reason. Just get over it, you'll be OK. There's plenty of fine dining in short drive away and you can run some hot water in the tub. And, by the way, it's a real, porceline tub, not a plastic thing as I've experienced even in expensive hotels. There's also real ceramic tile and a genuine, not-low-flow toilet.”
“The manager was very friendly and welcoming. Told us where to find the cheapest gas. Easy to find with signs.”
“Adequate no frills budget motel. Fine for cheap one night stay. Great internet access and speed. Decor dated and a bit shabby. Cable TV with HBO. Older TV with good picture.”
