I needed a police escort back to the hotel after an being approached by unknown suspects while walking to a 7-11 two blocks away. They pulled up alongside me for a few seconds, pulled away but stopped a 100 yds down the road, began to back up, then stopped and pulled away again. Then, as I entered the 7-11 parking lot they drove into the lot at a high rate of speed but pulled away when they saw an employee open the door for me.

We each had a kitchenette in the room, with fridge, microwave and sink, and the rooms had more "architectural character" than some hotels, which I liked. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean. My sister said their room had a security light outside that shown into their room at night, but my room didn't have that issue (plus I wear a sleep eye mask). Staff was very friendly. Asked for a quiet room in advance. Was assigned a room right by elevators. Asked for something quiet after seeing it was going to be noisy. Was given room on floor below. It was incredibly noisy from guests upstairs. Breakfast was usual hot hotel food. Happy there was real half and half, not just creamer. Very clean everywhere!

Although it is an older style motel with smaller-sized rooms, it felt recently remodeled with fresh tile, bathroom, and flooring throughout. Although we could easily afford a more modern hotel, we would definitely return to Toppers.

The facilities are great and the staff was professional and helpful. The breakfast was great too. It's a real gem in this remote rural community. I had to go home and the staff at the Hotel were very understanding and said they would handle cancelling my reservation. The Hostess was very kind to me in my time of need. Next time I'm in Taft I will stay here. Thank you.

Easy parking. Perfectly acceptable room with coffee pot and fridge. It is not a fancy place so don't expect that. Well located for a trip from the desert to the coast and inexpensive.
