Close to the centre of Saumur, the hotel Anne D'Anjou is overlooking the river and has a view of the chateau above. The room was unique, had wonderful architectural features and was very spacious. The staff was terrific, and helpful in assisting us with getting cabs.

Set in a traditional 19th-century house, La Mancelle B&B is located in the historic centre of Le Mans, only 280 metres from the Botanic Gardens. This accommodation is on the top floor of a beautiful old town house on a quiet street within 5 minutes of the medieval old town of Le Mans. The suite is spacious with a separate lounge, the bed was very comfortable, there's a fabulous bathroom and there is interesting artwork, antiques and curios throughout the house. Our hosts were warm, knowledgable about the area and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious with juice, coffee, pastries and homemade preserves and jams. We stayed for 2 nights and it was very comfortable. Good for a single person or couple.

The 5 Grande Rue is located in the centre of Le Lude, just 50 metres from Le Lude Castle and a 35-minute drive from Le Mans. Lovely property, nothing was too much trouble. Great secure parking. Super comfy bed.

Located on the Loire River, just a 20-minute drive from Angers, Château de Belle Poule is set on a former farm and offers a 2-hectare park. Saumur is 47 km away. We were travelling from Normandy to Ile de Re towing a trailer and we needed secure parking. The location of the chateau was perfect for us and as the chateau is behind closed gates we had no worries about leaving the trailer unattended while we were in the local town having dinner. Catherine was very welcoming and suggested several places to eat that evening, we ended up in an open-air cafe/bar in the local park with views over the river. The bedrooms are spacious with a very comfortable bed and a spotless bathroom. We had a very nice continental breakfast. We would certainly return to stay again.

Located 17 km from Sablé-sur-Sarthe, a town well-known for its biscuits, Hotel Le Saint Aubin is a 10-minute drive from the A81. It offers contemporary rooms and suites with free Wi-Fi access. What a teriffic find. A quiet village hotel, we stayed in a converted outbuilding that had been done up to the highest standard. Beautiful courtyard garden, lovely breakfast in the conservatory and the added bonus of a restaurant right next door. It was a great place to stop over on our way back to Roscoff having done a weeks skiing in the Alps.
