I booked three cabins for my family.
I booked three cabins for my family. Cabin 24's cooktop did not even work so I had to cook in my cabin. And the toilet bowl was dirty and stained and their was no toiletries provided (soap, shampoo, conditioner or body wash). Cabin 42 was just passable with the only complaint was the blankets smelt of urine. Cabin 1 was a bit modern but found that the bed linen and the mattress protector had stain spots and the florescent light in the lounge area did not work. A busy Sugar Plantation town on the Bruce Hwy A1 National Hwy, on a wide slow flowing river. Was formerly a prosperous town, this is evident by the Art Deco style Banks, Courthouse, Library and former dance Halls in the beautiful town on the Johnstone River. Could have stayed longer, country folk have time and are very friendly to all travellers who enter their patch.

Nice to walk the streets and see the Art Deco style from an adult’s view. I never appreciated it as a child when I came with my Dad on business trips. Popped into the Chinese temple. Lots of great gift shops to start buying Christmas gifts. A coffee opposite a Fitzgerald Esplanade was also lovely after reading all the historical info along the river edge. Etty Bay was great for lunch. And to see a Cassowary.

We liked the back patio table, and the inside dining and lounge furniture. Avalon is also walking distance to Innisfail CBD, so you just have to walk across the bridge for dinner if you don’t feel like cooking.
