Guillestre is small town which has all the features a visitor might need. There are numerous bars and small restaurants. The food in the Guillestrois was exceptional. There are numerous guest houses. There are several traditional shops and a supermarket. Evening entertainments are frequently held in the town centre during summer. Guillestre is a great place to stay if you want to go bike...
Guillestre is a great place to stay if you want to go bike up the local mountains. All relevant Col's are really close. The starts of the Col de Vars and Col de Risoul are just 5 to 10 minutes by bike from the town. One thing to keep in mind is that in mid to late September, a lot of the restaurants are closing early (and fewer days open per week) and don't have all the food available that's on the menu as it's the end of the season for them.GLAJNetherlands

The Chalets are a great deal for 2 couples, one room is tiny but the price is right and the living area is really nice. Also nice that the shower and toilet are in separate rooms so great again for 2 couples. Staff was really helpful storing bags during our trek and arranging transfers to the train station.
