The busy fishing port and fresh fish markets were of great interest, and there was plenty of choice at restaurants -particularly if you wanted to eat fresh fish!
The island is really well set-up for cycling-cycle lanes abound and the island of Oleron is flat.
The oyster gathering industry is another distinctive feature of the Island.

La Cotiniere is both a small working port and a holiday venue. It has shops offering clothes, gifts and souvenirs, most quite tasteful. There are a few bike rental companies too - we hired bikes for a day and had great fun exploring. It has plenty of restaurants: we dined at two, on a list of recommended restaurants provided by our hotel. The better of the two, La Sardinerie was outstanding, and not surprisingly very popular - booking essential.

The hotel is ideally placed for walking in to the port of La Cotiniere, where there are lots of restaurants, bars and shopping. The hotel is very dog friendly and the beach directly next to the hotel is perfect for dog walking!

Lovely harbour with working trawlers, lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, sandy beach and well located in the centre of the island. At first we thought it was just a lot of bucket and spade shops but there’s a good fish market area and basically unspoilt. We are twice at le chaloupe, good seafood overlooking the harbor

La Cotiniere is a busy fishing port but with plenty to see.
La Cotiniere is a busy fishing port but with plenty to see. We would envisage that, at the height of the summer, parking could be a problem but if you have access to bikes, or can walk, then this would be a preferred way to visit the town. We particularly liked the restaurant Le Caps, which we visited a few times due to the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food. Highly recommended. Another restaurant worthy of a visit is Le Mille Pates in St Pierre, just ten minutes by car from La Cotiniere. Again, excellent fresh food and first class staff. We would also encourage a visit to the Vignoble Vincent where you can taste, and purchase, a wide range of Pineau Cognac's and wine.
Apartment was self catering and was one of five sharing a quiet courtyard situated just off the main port of La Cotiniere on Ile D'Oleron. There were beaches nearby for swimming at high tide and good seafood restaurants. The hosts, Vanessa and Baptiste were excellent and very attentive. The apartment was modern and well provided with everything we needed. Car parking was available next to the apartment and the area was closed off by a gate at night for better security.
Very comfortable and spacious house. Fantastic kitchen - extremely well-equipped.
The house is decorated with the paintings of the owner’s grandfather - these are very interesting and we enjoyed trying to understand what could be the meaning of each painting…
The location is very peaceful despite being within walking distance of La Cotinière.
The owner was very friendly and replied very clearly and very quickly to all our questions.
This hotel is in an amazing location, right in the harbour side. There are numerous restaurants specialising in seafood, many boutique shops and the beech is within easy walking distance. We were there at the beginning of September and free overnight parking was relatively easy to find.
The room was relatively small but was very comfortable, with a shower room and separate WC. There was a little fridge too.
Great location, half way through the island on the beach front, at walking distance to the harbour where there are plenty of shops and restaurants. We went in August and the hotel was pretty full yet very quiet. All staff is friendly, breakfast is available for a supplement but is worth it with a good variety to choose from.
The hotel is located right across the beach. 1 minute walk to the beach, great sea view from the room. Room was spacious with a small balcony. Beds were very comfortable! There is a small pool, ideal for a quick dip. Staff is friendly, took the corona measures very serious.
The hosts were extremely accommodating and welcoming. The hotel was a very comfortable stop over with a lovely pool too. Breakfast provided a great choice and start to the day.
We were recommended a local restaurant for supper which served fabulous seafood.
We had a spacious room, with a large confortable bed, high ceilings, exceptionally clean. We loved being at the ocean, gaving our own space outdoors to enjoy the view. Breakfast was great, hotel has a lovely pool. One of the best small hotels I’ve stayed at.
The hotel was very comfortable, met all of our needs and is a very good place to bring a pet. The staff is friendly and helpful. It is possible to walk to a town with many restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend.
Absolutely great location within walking distance to the centre and restaurants.
Parking perfect just across the street. The owners very nice and welcoming. The hotel and room nice and clean… just perfect!!
