I have been twice before over the years, It's a very expensive suburb of Paris now and an interesting town which revolves around the Chateau. The Chateau is a place you must visit once in your life at least, and allow a full day or more as the grounds are huge. It's a commercial tourist trap, long queues and not enough people selling tickets though all staff are very friendly and helpful. I would have bought online but couldn't fathom the headset guide, you could add it then it disappeared at checkout. Turns out you can't and don't need to pre-order, they are available after ticket check at a desk in the entrance, no queue. You can buy tickets from Tourist Information (they have an allocation) to beat the queues. Don't take a very expensive tour, the audio gives the same information and there are plenty of signs to stop you getting lost. Fantastic place but more or less just a portrait gallery and heaven for lovers of architecture. Just stand there and wonder at the scale, opulence and grandeur of the place. Not much catering, just essentials but the catering staff will refill a water bottle for you free if you ask nicely (a bit of French is handy). Be prepared to get your elbows out as although access is limited there are a lot of people inside, be prepared to wait for pictures and be tolerant of the bored and ignorant being dragged around! Book one of the local hotels, we used the Ibis, a 5 minute walk and used a restaurant on Rue de Satory which has a good selection and just outside the gates.

Fantastic trip.
Fantastic trip. It had been on my bucket list for a long time and did not disappoint. Mercure hôtel exceptionally welcoming. Excellent breakfast.
Would definitely recommend.
The palace is of course the main reason to go to Versailles but I don’t advise visiting the inside on a Sunday. It was packed to the rafters and at time uncomfortably so.
But hey ho! I loved it all. Enjoy your trip…

Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors.
Versailles is not a welcoming place for visitors. No taxi service, The train tour of the palace is a rip off. They make you stand in the hot sun while the entire crew of drivers take a long break for lunch. If you get off there is a long wait time before you can get a spot on another train. Large tour groups block passage to many exhibits. Signage throughout the gardens and some displays is very poor and non existent in many places. A real disappointment. The hotel staff and restaurants were all good and made our time spent with them very enjoyable.

Versaille is an excellent base for a stay in Paris away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, there was a great selection of local restaurants and a good evening vibe over the weekend.
We especially enjoyed visiting the local market which is open most days and felt it was a very safe area to wander around during the evening so ideal for lone travellers unsure where to stay in Paris. We also took the local RER train into central Paris which was easy to use and reasonably priced with a journey time of approx 40 mins, looking forward to returning to the area in the near future.

Beautiful town!
Beautiful town!
If you are visiting the palace I recommend hiring one of the golf buggies to see the gardens, you need your driving licence with you, €38/hour and €9.50 per extra 10 mins. We took our time going round, stopped at a few places for fresh squeezed orange juice (they have little carts at various locations) and paid a total of €57 which we felt was good value, everyone felt it was a real highlight, having the independence, and you also have a guide talking to you as you go round on a recording in the vehicle.
staff were very helpful, rooms are clean and well maintained. Breakfast included a good variety. location is a big advantage. easy access to several bus lines. the street behind the hotel is a place where u can find anything you need: pharmacy, several mini markets, and others. A mall Parly 2 is a 10 min bus ride away.. Versailles palace, the city center with all the nice restaurants are all nearby and with very easy access by bus. the train stations are also 10 min away by bus and from there you can go to Paris or other cities by train.
Location was perfect. Just round the corner were all the bars and restaurants on the square and the palace of Versailles is just 10 minute walk. The owner/ reception man was lovey. Polite and welcoming and he let us park our truck outside where he could keep an eye on it for us. The hotel is spotlessly clean and feels brand new. The bed was so comfy and we had a nice view from the big window. The bathroom was modern and 2 shower heads and spotless. Perfect hotel.
The hotel was in an excellent location, just a 5 minute walk to the palace of Versailles and a 1 minute walk to the train station where you can get into Paris within 25 minutes. We didn’t eat in the hotel, but there was an excellent Italian restaurant next door where we ate both nights. The rooms were quite small but they were clean and comfortable and perfectly adequate for a 2 night stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are visiting Versailles.
The staff welcomed us Ann gave us a tour of the apartment. She went out of her way to explain to us the operation of the tv remotes. It was our problem and she came to re-explain things to us. Again it was user error on our part. Also, she lent us her own umbrella when we needed one because of the rain. It was ideally situated being 3 blocks from the train station and a 7-8 minute walk to The Palace of Versailles.
The hotel is just beautiful, lots of original features. We were given a room in the Pavillion which is an add on to the hotel just opposite. The room was spacious with great facilities. We were half board and so had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, the food was excellent and the staff extremely helpful. The location is perfect for a day in the Palace of Versailles.
Lots to like here:
1 - Good location in Versailles only a fifteen minute walk to the palace and plenty of good places to eat less than five minutes away from the hotel
2 - Excellent staff, incredibly firendly and helpful, can't commend them enough for their work!
3 - Great facilities, the rooms were very comfy, very clean and very bright, and excellent place to stay.
This beautiful hotel is located close to the palace and Chateau de Versailles. The staff were very accommodating. I could leave my luggage at the front desk until check-in/out, and when I told the night staff my plug didn't work, he went straight out to collect a new one so I could have a bath. The breakfast host was very attentive during our meal and made good coffee.
A warm welcome awaits you from the kind owners of the Royal hotel in Versailles. The hotel is an easy 15 minute from Versailles-Chantiers station and it is about the same distance to the Palace. The rooms are clean, quiet and recently renovated. The breakfast is very adequate and there are many choices of restaurants nearby. We can recommend a stay there.
The location was very nice. It is close to one of the entrances to the Versailles Palace.
The underground parking was spacious enough and relatively easy to access.
The double extended sofa bed was good for the kids (9yo &6yo).
The room was well cleaned.
The hotel was in general well maintained.
We like the intimate setting. We decided not to rent a vehicle when in France, but instead take the train and walk. Our location was easy to walk to our destinations.
When we wanted to go to Paris we just walked to the train and spent the whole day there not worried about traffic or directions.
Clean, smart hotel well situated to visit the Palace of Versailles. Great hairdryer in the room and comfortable bed with good pillows. Buffet breakfast is a little pricey but the food is good quality and the eggs and bacon are hot!
Excellent location for the Palace of Versailles and others restauarnts / bars were a short walk away. Buffet breakfast had plenty of food options and was very well presented. The hotel's own bar was very nice too.
Great location! Only a few steps away from the Palace of Versailles gate and an easy 5 min walk to train station to take you into Paris. Tons of places to eat at nearby.
Host was very kind and accommodating.
location is fantastic just few minutes walk from Versailles Palace. good breakfast. and comfortable parking under the hotel.Rituals cosmetics in the bathroom was a really nice surprise.
