Being February it wasn't beach weather and we only did a two night mid-week trip. We visited the charming local museum and strolled around the narrow streets and local shops. Dartmouth is built on two sides of a valley but if you don't like walking up hill there is a regular bus to take you around town. We took advice and booked restaurants ahead. The Royal Castle Hotel offers a really good menu in a pub setting where the food and service were excellent. We also ate at the Embankment where the menu is not so traditional but the food was excellent. We took a boat trip with a very entertaining and informative commentary. Sadly the steam train from Kingswear wasn't running mid-week out of season but we drove to Buckfast Abbey which is well worth a visit. Finally we lunched at Rockfish, majoring in fish of course, another excellent meal to set us up for the drive home.

Loved being by the river.
Loved being by the river. Ferries for vehicles or on foot very close to Bayards and reasonably priced.
Ample gift shops, food stores, museums, Information Building (excellent staff) to help.
Walks and historical landmarks nearby, Bayards Cove, Dartmouth Castle (a bit expensive for what we saw and cafe closed an hour earlier than the castle), historical walks to castle.
Plenty of pubs, eating houses etc.
Some restaurants exceptionally expensive but with so many £m's of pounds worth of yachts and boats in harbour, they would cater for everyone.
River cruise lovely to Ditsmarsh there and back, viewing Agatha Christie's house alongside the river.
Could probably stay a week (as opposed to 3 nights) and still enjoy Dartmouth.
Was told that February/March is a good time to visit as Dartmouth is not "too full" and you can get into the pubs and restaurants without queueing. However, some river boats not operating until March/April or May but there were adequate amounts operating for number of people in Dartmouth during February.

The River Dart estuary is just stunning, full of bobbing boats - there's so much to see and do in Dartmouth itself. Full of history, beautiful old buildings, hidden gems, cobbled streets and a long waterfront that entices you to walk, either to Dartmouth Castle or Dittisham. Don't miss the Dartmouth Museum, book into a few of the fabulous restaurants, some with a Michelin star, and a tour of the Naval College if you have time!

We were only there for one night (unfortunately) have been to Dartmouth many times before but never stayed at Waterfront House. We couldn’t fault it. Lovely comfortable room with magnificent view and it was so quiet. Breakfast was excellent and the owners/managers were very nice.

A pretty old town. very picturesque.
A pretty old town. very picturesque. Some upmarket shops and lots of bars and restaurants. We ate at Rockfish and Taylor's which were both very good, although Taylor's was expensive. The town centre is flat and compact but is steep leading out of town. The town was bustling with people, even at the end of September. I would recommend the boat trip up the river Dart to Totnes and the steam railway to Paignton for trips out.
our room in this guest house was lovely, it had a nice outside space with table and chairs which looked out onto the garden. The room was big with living area as well as bed. the bed and pillow where really comfy and we both slept really well. the whole room and bathroom where really clean and tidy. breakfast was nice and the owners where helpful and lovely to speak to. we had a really nice break close to Dartmouth shops and restaurants (must book restaurants in advance!) and the lovely Blackpool sands. we would recommend and stay there again
The hotel could not have a better location, just a few minutes walk from everything you need in Dartmouth but without the noise and traffic. Inside there was a calm and peaceful atmosphere and a very warm friendly welcome.
The breakfast was exceptional, a fabulous fruit salad to start, cereals and a choice of cooked items. Very good.
We used the restaurant for dinner and had a lovely meal. All the staff were good and were knowledgeable about the items on the menu. The food was great.
Beautifully appointed room, great breakfast and Nikki and Mitch are the very best hosts!! Bistro food is outstanding. Location is quiet but so close to the best areas for discovering historic Dartmouth. We were warmly greeted, and treated like family during our four night stay! A warm and cozy retreat to come back to after a day of exploring. Highly recommended!!!!
Lovely property, nicely furnished and comfortable. Central location in Dartmouth with harbour close by plus Marks and Spencer and restaurants round the corner. Lovely terrace with some views of Kingswere. Bedrooms were lovely with wonderful views and beds were very comfortable. Ideal downstairs bedroom en-suite for my dad who is 86.
Absolutely brilliant place to stay in Dartmouth! Lovely, spotless, well equipped rooms; delicious, generous breakfast; great staff, location and facilities! Stylish decor, mini bar and fab tea and coffee options in each room, toiletries and little extras included, even fancy folded towels like a five star hotel, which my children loved!
Very welcoming and relaxing hotel in excellent central location. Love the décor and ambience. Fabulous food; the breakfasts especially are a delight for those who are up for a full cooked breakfast, with local fayre, and vegetarians alike! Nothing too much trouble. Great to see it's dog- friendly too :-)
Very convenient for the Main Street in Dartmouth. 2 mins walk from M&S and local pub. Great dog friendly house with throws on sofas and small outdoor courtyard on lower level, nice patio area on upper level. House lovely and clean and had everything we needed.

Jean was a very good host. Beautiful house and very comfortable room. Good breakfasts. Good to be able to walk down into Dartmouth along attractive routes and good to be able to catch the regular bus back up the steep hill.
The Seale Arms is located in an ideal place for visitors to explore all that Dartmouth has to offer. Most attractions, pubs and restaurants are within a very short walking distance from the pub.
Very well located for the centre of Dartmouth, comfortable living space and good sized bedrooms. Lovely decor and it was warm and cosy. It felt very relaxing and we enjoyed staying there.
With all complications of COVID The Hotel copped brilliantly
