Such a beautiful hotel, very welcoming. Staff were amazing nothing too much trouble, the food was excellent so nice to have vegetables with our meals not just the usual chips. The signature pies were amazing . Just be aware of the stairs to the bedrooms very steep

The Bell Inn is several miles from Lyndhurst in the beautiful New Forest; lovely walks over heath and woodland and, if you're lucky, you'll encounter ponies, donkeys and pigs roaming free locally; drive carefully!

Lyndhurst is a great place to stay for exploring the New Forest. It has a good mix of interesting shops and restaurants and a good sized car-park in the centre.
That said, it can get very busy and there can be traffic queues in high-season since it is a bit of a bottleneck. So I'd recommend visiting slightly off-season.

What let it down for us was the lack of options for gluten free breakfast no cereals no fruit no yogurts then when we did get breakfast it was cold toast rock hard it wasn’t even busy only us two for breakfast
We wanted to order gluten free fish and chips but fryer broken so was limited on evening options but what we did order was tasty I must say I was impressed by the staff knowledge on g/f intolerance and allergies.

Lyndhurst has some interesting shops particularly the antiques emporium and some nice pubs and restaurants and the Anglican church of St Michael's where the original Alice who was the model for ''Alice in Wonderland''was buried.
I went to the Passage to India Indian restaurant which is quite near to the Penny Farthing hotel.
There is a Ferrari showroom if you want to check them out but the cars are very expensive.

It is a lovely village, full of character.
It is a lovely village, full of character. It was the fourth, or fifth, time we have stayed in, or around, Lyndhurst. There are great shops, cafe's, restaurants and pubs. It is small enough to comfortably walk around. We ate in "The Forage, which is a modern Italian style restaurant with a very good menu selection. The only issue is that Lyndhurst is a focal point for all the roads into and out of the NewForest, which often leads to long traffic queues into and out of the village. However, the main road through is one way, which makes it easier for pedestrians to cross.
Beautiful house with 3 bedrooms available. Owners helped bring the luggage to the rooms upstairs. Entrance is more or less private as the rest of the house can be, and is closed off. Breakfast was great, cooked to order, and the owners Nick and Judith spent some time chatting with us about their business location is perfect. The main street of Lyndhurst is very picturesque with lots of shops and restaurant from which to choose. Avalon house is just a 5 minute walk away. Would absolutely stay here again.
The Stag Hotel was excellent. Great facilities, very clean. Plenty of space and a lovely staff team. The food in the restaurant was also excellent. We really enjoyed the pie of the day as well as lunch offerings and the breakfast that was included in our stay was consistently very good. We didn't bring our dog, but over our 3 day stay many people brought in their dogs. It was very dog friendly, they even offer a dog menu for a Sunday Roast!
Having spent several 100s nights per year in big international hotel brands it was refreshing to experience this family owned 26 room coaching Inn. Perfectly situated within 3-4 minutes drive from the M27 yet walking distance to beautiful parts of the New Forest. Exceptional restaurant for both breakfast and evening meals; taken in the dog friendly bar. Will stay here again and most certainly stop for a cup of their wonderful coffee.
We stayed in one of the shepherds huts, self catering. This was very compact and charming with a nice outside seating area. A sort of glamping really. Good shower and comfortable bed. The self-catering facilities comprised a kettle and microwave/stove which suited us . We did not use the hotel dining facilities. A great location for all areas of the New Forest.
The accommodation was clean and tidy and the staff were friendly and helpful and went out of there way to provide us with an early light breakfast as we requested. The hotel allows dogs to stay which is great for families who want to stay with their pets.
We will definitely stay at this hotel again when in Lyndhurst.
Lovely to return to the hotel we got married in 15 years previously. And great to see the same manager still over sees the hotel.
The hotel dining area is a lovely setting and the food very nice too.
The hotel has a lovely intimate and cosy feel.
Hotel well placed in Lyndhurst and visiting the New Forest
The hotel was in a great location, only a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Lyndhurst and had free parking. The staff were very friendly, helpful and made a fuss of our dog. The rooms were comfortable and had all we needed for our stay. A full English breakfast was included, which was very good.
Service and range at breakfast was excellent, Location was beautiful. Room had been modernised to high standard. We visited the lovely Exbury Gardens then spent the night at the hotel before a cruise leaving Southampton the next day.
The location was fabulous, within easy walking distance from Lyndhurst and The New Forest. There were paths from the property directly into the forest and horses and deer were often seen on those walks. The breakfast was lovely.
We missed breakfast due to time change but staff cooked us up something quick anyway. They couldn't have been more helpful. Short walk into Lyndhurst which has everything you need. Would definitely go back. Five stars.
The Stag Hotel is in a great central location in Lyndhurst and it has a good car park.
The rooms were lovely and the food excellent.
Breakfast was fabulous.
The staff were very friendly.
All staff were friendly welcoming and attentive. Room was a good size and clean and location of hotel was excellent just 300 metres to town. Breakfast and service was good.
