Best were the stunning views from the ramparts of the castle...
Best were the stunning views from the ramparts of the castle. The museum within the castle was interesting and worth the entrance fee. Our room was comfortable and eating in the castle restaurant was a good experience.
The only downsides to our visit were a slightly frosty reception from our hostess - perfectly polite and informative, just no welcoming smiles - and the difficulty of driving into the castle to deliver our bags (the entrance is very narrow and some building work made it even narrower than usual) and then driving out to park down the road. The only car permitted to park within the castle was a Bentley!!
The view from the terrace and from our room was absolutely stunning. The host and her daughter are both very kind and welcoming. They serve a nice breakfast, with good coffee, plenty of choice of homemade cakes and fruit pies, fresh fruit, meat and cheese. The village of Vigoleno is in 15 minutes walking distance (bring a flashlight or charge your phone enough to use it as one, when you plan to walk back at night) and within the impressive walls of the cute old center are some nice restaurants where they serve local food and wines.
This is a very cool place to stay and the manager of the hotel is delightful. The castle itself is fascinating, and it’s location among vineyards and other castle towns is fantastic. The rooms are warm and spacious. If you’re driving from Florence to Lake Como, this is a great place to stop and spend the night to break up the drive and enjoy the local history.
At first it was hard to find as the hotel is INSIDE the Castle and ths signs say "no vehicles". A phone call solved this and we were able to drive-in to unlioad baggage. WOW, what a place, a real castle. I will go again as it is aspecial place. Breakfast was very good for Italy. Parking nearby.
Great location with nice view, close to medieval town of vigoleno and very nice owner helping out to find restaurant. We booked this place travelling from South Italy as an overnight stop. Only 30 min from highway and great value !
Away from anywhere.. good walking/ hiking to local towns like Vigoleno which was half an hour away..
Patricia very sweet lady who gave me a big chunk discount as I was a solo traveler
