I think that if the weather had been good, the views of Mt Fuji would have been spectacular. Without Mt Fuji, though, the facilities did leave much to be desired. The staff at the front desk were tremendously helpful. The onsen were clean and probably would have had fantastic views if the fog hadn't cut visibility to roughly 100 feet.

Our room was fantastic we had a great view of Mt. Fuji. The onsen was very relaxing after a day of walking. The bed was very comfortable and had very nice duvet, I didn't want to get out of bed in the morning.

It was a nice place to stop for a few days before heading back to Tokyo.
Great places to eat and beautiful walks around the lake.
There is a bathhouse not to far from the hotel but they do not allow tattoos- no exceptions.

This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views.
This is a beautiful area full of nature and amazing views. I went in October so out of the main season and it was nice and quiet with not many visitors around.
Renting a Swan boat and feeding the ducks was great fun!
I couldn't find a single vegetarian restaurant in town so something to be aware of if you don't eat meat or fish.
Just be aware of the army base from which you can hear artillery fire every day. It's loud and a little disconcerting!
I think Yamanakako is less touristy than Kawaguchiko which for me is a good thing.

It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities.
It's a great area if you like outdoorsy activities. There's several hiking trails around the Lake, which are well marked and reward you with an awesome view of Fujisan when you get to the destination. The trails up to Mt Takazasu and Mt Myojin are good and take in the Panorama-Dei spot which is popolar for viewing Fujisan. All-day parking is available at Yamanakako Community Plaza Kirara, and the trailheads are 20-30min walk away from there.
There is also a very nice 15km cycling path around the Lake, which is a very long but pleasant walk. If you're not outdoorsy, then the options are more limited to the nice restaurants, and there are high end and nice lower-priced options (Denny's, Cafe Gusto). There are also various onsen and sento in the town.

Pros - Mt Fuji is a glory to see so close up and the clouds and the skyline around the mountain were in a constant dance of change - breathtaking. The reflections of the sunset clouds on the lake were were dazzling. The freshness of the pristine air. The lack of high humidity. The sense of well-being offered by the area. The vehicles stopped at zebra crossings which isn't always the case in certain cities.
Cons - At times we have to walk on the road within half a metre of passing vehicles. That could have possible unwanted outcomes.

Yamanashi in general was gorgeous.
Yamanashi in general was gorgeous. We stayed at Yamanakako and it was a great place to stay at to get away from the stressful work environment in the city. We didn't get to eat at any local restaurants since we were too busy exploring the surrounding areas but you won't be left wanting for food options since everywhere you go, there's a restaurant nearby and they all looked so good. I think it would be more convenient if you travel around by car since the bus fare can get a little expensive if you're traveling far.

Yamanakako is a great place for people that don't like...
Yamanakako is a great place for people that don't like crowded locations. You can calmly cruise on your car around the lake, watch the swans, grab a coffee at one of several scenic cafes. You can take a mini-swan-boat for a spin in a small group while feeding swans and big fishes or take a mega-swan "pleasure boat" that takes you across the lake. Or you can take a hippo amphibian bus that will drive you right into the lake. Or you can just park your car and walk into the lake with a gorgeous view of Fuji with reflection. Dramatic scenery guaranteed. The only thing you won't see is a fancy infrastructure. There are some nice cafe's but many places look run down. Surprising though, considering how beautiful the nature is around.
My stay at the Murabito guesthouse was simply wonderful! First of all, kindness, sympathy, generosity and benevolence are the words that sum up the owners Marino and Kei well. In addition, they speak perfect English which makes communication much easier for people who do not speak Japanese. Then the house is really clean and the beds are really comfortable. Finally, the house benefits from an excellent location, very close to Lake Yamanakako and a beautiful view of Mount Fuji. Thank you very much for this stay! Thomas
Location was great, great view of Fuji from our balcony. It is in quite a remote part of Yamanakako (last stop on the bus), but it was lovely and quiet and not touristy at all. The owner was super friendly, she held our bags for us the next day. They have two really cute and large cats, and lots of cat decor which was cute. The futons and the room was very comfortable. Really enjoyed our stay, highly recommend!
It is a very special place located near Lake Yamanakako with excellent views of Mt Fuji. The rooms are traditional ryokan with tatami mats and you have your own amenities to make tea or heat up something in the microwave.
You are also about a 10 min walk from bus station and downtown - which has excellent places to eat and drink.
Also the onsen was great and in the lounge area you could build a fire!
The heaters for the futon! It made the bed even more comfortable. They really make a difference for a good night's sleep in winter.
Even though there's a likely chance Mt Fuji may not be seen due to weather conditions, it's right by the lake, so it's very close to nature. You can see ducks and swans all around you.
Very calming and relaxing atmosphere. Good for escaping from the city.
It’s is a lovely hotel, which is run by a lovely couple.
The rooms are very comfortable with nice air conditioning in the hot summer.
The hotel is taking great COVID-19 protection measures and the bathroom facilities are booked on demand individually. A nice touch!
It’s located about a five minute walk to scenic Lake Yamanakako and it’s nearby restaurants.
Great location. Short distance to the lake. You can easily go to the lake within 10 min on foot and enjoy the beautiful scenario of Fuji-san and the Yamanakako. Fully facilitated where you can feel comfortable like at home. Loved some game options which was enjoyable for kids. I would recommend this house for family trip. Plus hosts are nice people.
This is a quiet and elegant hotel,
It has a unique Japanese style, and the boss is kind and friendly. If time permits, a good soak in the bath can make the tiredness of the day disappear.
Quite close to the lake, you can quickly see the beautiful and dreamy Mount Fuji.
Looking forward to visiting again~
The location is great. It’s a short 5-7 minute walk to a beautiful view of Yamanakako, and there’s a bus station there as well.
The onsen is small, but the size is ok based on the number of guests at the hotel — I used the bath both nights and only saw one other person.
The price is excellent.
We liked the onsen, room and the Mt Fuji view from the room (we were lucky with clear sunny weather). It was very relaxing and the food was yum. It had convenient access for in a car and next to the lake with a convenience store nearby. Nice area to walk around too.
The location and views were priceless. Fuji-san is absolutely stunning and the lake was lovely and quiet
The staff were very polite and helpful and helped us organise a bus to Tokyo. The shuttle is a great idea too as the walk up to the hotel is quite a climb.
Accommodation was awesome, and came with all the amenities you can think of, including grills, nespresso machines, etc. Location was amazing, and it was surreal to wake up to Mt Fuji in the distance. Jacuzzi hot tub was a great onsen substitute!
The property was really nice very close to the Yamanakako Lake which has one of the best views of Mt. Fuji. In terms of facility, it was complete perfect for someone looking for a stay other than hotel.
Lovely place to relaxing. Every staffs are friendly polite and great service. My little son love this place so much. There is two private onsen. They are so nice. The hotel is so beautiful.
Amazing view. You can’t get better from any other hotel or airbnb. Well worth the money since we were only there for 2 nights. The onsen was clean and did have views of the mountain.
Garden Shed is a beautiful location right next to Mt. Fuji and is rich in history. I have stayed at many hotels and Air BnBs in Japan and this is by far the best I have stayed at.
