Mascota is a beautiful little town, surrounded by nature.
Mascota is a beautiful little town, surrounded by nature. The restaurants are fantastic and plentiful for such a small town. The local residents are really helpful and favourable to tourism. Would recommend an overnight trip. You can visit everything on foot.

Mascota and the region are quite interesting.
Mascota and the region are quite interesting. There are a fair number of things to do and see in the area, but you need to work a bit to find them. Roads can be absolutely insane, but they're worth it for the views in some areas. People were generally friendly; a bit cautious until you greet them with a few words in Spanish. You should really know some Spanish before exploring the area. Signage is limited generally, and you cannot always rely on Google.

Mascota and the surrounding mountain areas are wonderful places to explore. It is well deserving of its selection as one of the Pueblos Mágicos of Mexico. I would advise an SUV if making a side trip up into to the mountains to visit the villages of Yuerba Buena, Cimmaron, Navidad, Juanacatlán, etc. because the roads can be rough, especially if driving all the way up to the Laguna de Juanacatlán.

Though we were able to spend the night, in a lovely hotel (Santa Lucia) not far from the plaza, we could easily have spent more time. A very warm and inviting place, with a clear charm, a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta (which we also love and have been visiting for 30+ years). We had planned to venture out to YerbaBuena and Navidad, but decided to linger in Mascota instead.

Mascota is a charming little town with a quaint "centro" and plaza area. There are lots of outdoor adventures to be had. We enjoyed our bike trips with Golo of Escapa a lo Mágico and the cultural city tour with Sonia and her informador group (don't miss the Templo Incluso). Cholo's is a great lunch spot with all the Mexican favorites and Café Nápoles is a great place for dinner or just a coffee and a sweet.
Friendly people, pretty enough room and very clean. This is a simple motel of good value, away from the loud parties and traffic of downtown. Enough blankets, towels, and hot water, free coffee and good advice. Got Wifi on balcony or in the garden. Hotel is still within walking distance to plaza and restaurants. Also just three blocks from Templo Inconcluso, a fabulously romantic place where you could hang out on the lawns, amid flowers and picturesque ruins, for a meditative, quiet experience.
The location was quite nice, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We had our dog with us, and while there is a charge of 500 pesos, they were very welcoming and sweet with her. They also provided us with extra blankets (including one for her). The garden is lovely, and the room was clean and comfortable. Parking was easy (we ended up just parking on the street right in front of the hotel). We really enjoyed Mascota and the climb to the top of the hill the next day.
In the centre of Mascota this is a hacienda style hotel with a beautiful central terrace, helpful staff and basic, but comfy rooms. There is a tea/coffee and water station which was unusual and greatly appreciated. Our room was small, but fine for what we needed and great for our budget, and there are bigger rooms available. I recommend internal facing rooms if possible. Very relaxed and friendly. The village is lovely, with great places to eat and explore.
I made a good choice for my family to stay.
Receptionists Diana was so nice and gave us so much good information for us to have a good time in Mascota. The cleaning ladies were so helpful and happy to help us. We felt safe staying their. Amazing view in the patio and rooms were so clean and well taken care of. If I come back soon I will definitely stay at this hotel again. Thank you for letting us have a safe and good vacation.
The hotel has many aspects that could be very beautiful and relaxing.
It was quite close to the bus stop which was very handy.
The hotel has a lovely colonial feel to it. The walls are thick and noise from the road is not intrusive.
The bathroom was huge and the water very hot.
The room had an enormous wooden door with a quirky key.
There was coffee ( Nescafe) downstairs in the morning.
We decided last minute to stop in Mascota and we did not regret it. Meson la Huerta is cosy, clean, spacious. Parking also included! The perfect accommodation to sleep when visiting Mascota.
We completely loved it! Staff was super friendly and recommended places to visit and eat. We suggest you to try the Tacos from El Chocolate - the best tacos we ever tried and few meters from the hotel.
A wonderful stay with super clean and modern infrastructure
The hotel staff was very friendly.
The room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was clean with everyday room cleaning.
There is a supermarket in just walking distance of 1 min from where we used to get our essentials everyday.
The hotel has a modern infrastructure with an excellent location reachable by bus.
Absolutely beautiful hotel with great service, big room with a river view, very clean property and lovely location. The bed is extra comfy and the shower has unlimited hot water with unique hand made soap. We greatly enjoyed the complimentary tea and cookies in the evening in the courtyard by the fountain. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
The hotel is beautiful, with an incredibly lush garden in the center. The rooms are very nice, nice mattress and bedding, squicky clean. They offered a simple breakfast, nothing extravagant but good quality. The staff was great, and the owner was very nice, giving us a bunch of recommendations about nice places to visit. Very nice little stay.
Really liked this quaint hotel. It is in the heart of Mascota, short walk to plaza, museum & temple of the precious blood. Mexican breakfast was across the street and good. Loved the court yard. The bed was good. Staff spoke very little english, but were helpful. Definitely good value for your money. I would recommend it. .
We were in Mascota for just one night and are so pleased we spent it at Santa Elena! The hotel was charming, staff were really helpful, the breakfast was great, and the location - right in the historic center, but still quiet - was perfect. We will certainly return! Thanks for a wonderful stay. Kate & Jose
The staff was wonderful!! The hotel was very clean and there were little shops and street vendors nearby in the evenings. There was a little garden area with a comfy hammock and chairs. Staff very helpful with suggestions of things to do.
This hotel has a lovely central patio with a fountain and an upper terrace that overlooks it. Our king room had a ceiling fan and a window to the outside. The hotel is next door to the intercity bus location.
Amazing hospitality. The owner made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. it was in the center of town and close to Mascota center as well. Totally recommend it.
