Some really good coastal walks set up by DOC.

Some really good coastal walks set up by DOC. Some great board walks and coastal walks of various lengths. Peaceful area with most tourists not taking advantage of the walks and stopping in car parks for a quick look only. Warning: don't go off road near beachs. We towed someone out of the sand!

Haast is a definite stop and you must visit Jackson's Bay. Although itis a long way from Haast its a lovely drive and an interesting place when you get there. Make sure you take insect repellant as it is a MUST. We ate at the hotel restaurant. Good selection of mains. Lots of walks.

Haast requires some commitment to not just blast through to Wanaka or the glaciers. The visitors centre and the boardwalk (on way to Jackson Bay) are both worth an hour of your time. Plus all the points on the map just before and after Knights Point, Ship creek walks x2, waterfalls. An overnight stay is recommended to have two brilliant travel days. Take snacks and a flask though, it's remote and you may not find something open when you are hungry. And sandfly repellent, and long clothes!

We only stayed in Haast for 2 nights as a stopover between Queenstown and Franz Josef. Although there is not a lot to do apart from various walks and some fishing we did do a day trip down to Jackson Bay. A lovely little village on the edge of the ocean and they have a great seafood restaurant.

Jackson's Bay was probably beautiful in the sun, it was pouring down whilst we were there!! There is nothing to see at Haast- The beach isOK but there are the awful black bitingfies in their droves, other than that it is just a place to break a journey if necessary.

Haast is a nice remote location close to the seashore and national park. When travelling there are the facilities that you would need, but limited in choices. There is a Pub and Cafe where you can eat, but beware of their hours of operation. Wifi and cell service seeks to be restrictive in the region should you be needing it.

Great host, she is very sociable with each guests and takes good care of them, keeps kitchen always neat and clean, loves gardening and often watering plants in garden lounge, guests enjoy to sit and relax here. Best location in Haast township, supermarket ON THE SPOT 30sec., Spiker Cafe 1min., Restaurant The Hard Antler 2min., daytime crapes cart and whitebait carts come near here, intercity bus stop is in front of hostel entrance. Hostel has 3 bikes, I biked to Jackson Bay and enjoyed this good bike.

Easy check in. It has a nice garden right in the middle of the building that was a nice feature to see as you walk between your room and the bathroom. Multiple showers and toilets available as we as a kitchen and common area in garden. Lots of parking available. Beautiful area near beach and mountains. Beds were very comfortable and didn't have too many people per room like many other places.

Great property in Haast. Haast is only a remote and small place with 4 or 5 hotels and similar number of eateries. This property although being slightly remote is by far the best. Very comfortable rooms which are equipped with everything you need. Room was spotless and in great condition. Beach access is directly across the road via a private path.

A nice comfy motel stop before heading to Jackson bay. This is a very remote location in the country so we were amazed with finding such a nice motel. Really comfy beds, amazing shower and above all, all the wilderness one could hope for.

Well presented, the unit was properly cleaned with everything that one would expect. It probably wasn’t a five star hotel but as a motel in a stunning position with everything needed for an overnight stop it is definitely worth a visit

I liked how close it was to Haast Beach. We stayed in a family room and it was spacious, clean and comfortable. I appreciated the bug screens on the windows as the west coast sandflies are no joke. We would definitely stay here again.

Haast is a very small township and this motel was close to the small number of shops. The unit was tidy; some aspects could be renovated. It had all the facilities we needed however. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Able to accommodate our large group. Pub and restaurant on the premises so didn't have to drive for dinner or breakfast. Picnic tables in the garden area was great for entertaining. Evening meals and breakfast were great.

A bit surprising when gauged by it's location. Once you realize that Haast is not really the Paris of the West Coast, the well suited and sizeable hotel room is a comfortable and welcomed place to hang out.

Haast is a quiet township, so accommodation is few and spread out. The hostess tipped us on a good dinner restaurant in the township but it was 13 km to drive. Hard Antler was good!
