Rianda the host was so super helpful upon our arrival, during our stay and departure. She couldn’t have been more kind and hospitable than this. Our room was very cute, warm and had everything we needed, the heater and the electric blanket in the room were very efficient so we were kept warm all night. We had breakfast included and it was just perfect. I do not eat pork and beef so our host prepared some chicken for me instead. Location is good too. Highly recommend this place.

De Aar is not really a tourist destination.
De Aar is not really a tourist destination. It is not on any of the main roads going to vacation destinations. One would go there for business. There is only one pub restaurant that is open in the evenings, except on Sundays. On a Sunday afternoon, the only place to get a meal is a chicken take-away place. The town itself is charming, there are a variety of stores, and some awesome coffee shops that are open during the day.

De Aar is a convenient place to stop over on a long journey. The drive to De Aar from Namibia is beautiful as is the drive from De Aar to Cradock. De Aar itself is not beautiful. We used it as a transit point, and it suited our purposes. We ate at a restaurant recommended by our host. It is easy to get around. De Aar is a nice small get away town with diverse small community that speaks mostly both afrikaans and xhosa. Its very hot & dry because its in the Karroo, but it rained and stormed hard when we were there but we enjoyed it because it cooled off.

It is a peaceful Town rich in history. In addition, the scenery is amazing as opposed to the busyness of the city life. There are Game farms , Night clubs, Restaurants and other Tourist attraction sites based on preference.RoccoSouth Africa

And I loved the rusks, they were delicious. And the small religious books placed on the bedside, I loved that idea too, even though I was too tired to read them since I had to rest for my trip to Joburg the next morning. I will definitely consider staying here again the next time I find myself in De Aar.

We hadn't decided what to do for dinner and Jan arranged a platter for us which was outstanding. Truly, the best chicken wings ever! The room was spacious and exceptionally clean. The breakfast was amazing. The next time we drive to Cape Town, we will go via De Aar as the roads were excellent and the accommodation was brilliant. Thank you!Debbie StanburySouth Africa
