Dubai has many malls. The biggest being Dubai Mall and Mall of The Emirates. Both are perfect for any type of shopping you want to do, whether it's high brand shopping like Louis Vuitton or Mulberry, or if you want the high street fashion like Topshop or Miss Selfridge. You are bound to find something for everyone in either of these malls. The Souk Madinet is perfect for the more authentic shopping and the art work there is beautiful.

Is there more to shopping in Dubai than just brand-name stores?

If you wish to experience an unusual shopping with good quality- Global Village is the place for you. Local souvenirs, cloth (both local and european kinds), delicious baklava, honey, amazing atmosphere. Best place to experience Eastern culture (there are representatives of many Golf, Arabian Peninsula, Asian, Arabian Peninsula, European and American countries, but the first three are the most worth visiting: very specific and traditional).

Dubai has long beaches with great facilities which is not available in the most famous beached in the world like san tropez and malibu beach, you can swim in JBR public beach and you can find famous restaurant chains next to the beach like cheesecake factory and a lot of other famous brands, thats all besides out door cinema and gym.

for me Dubai is the safest beach as there are no sharks or so animals and the temp is encourging you to visit the beach all year times.

How can you enjoy the sights in Dubai while avoiding the crowds?

To enjoy the fountains show in the evening, it is better to book a restaurant prior: there are lots of them near Mall of Dubai. Furthermore, if you want to enjoy both: sightseeing and Desert tour, the good option is to take Big Bus Tour: the price for 48 hours tickets includes this, as well as many excursions by ferry or museums.

My trip to Dubai was mainly for the food! As a California native, I am spoiled for the best fresh foods and I found all my hometown favorites available. California rolls and shrimp rolls from the Sushi Counter at Dubai mall, Shrimp tacos from Baja Fresh at the Dubai mall, and really good chinese food with the best fried chicken ever at Magic Wok. I can't find any of these foods as I currently live and work in Qatar. Bon appetite!

I'm not usually the "do nothing" type of holiday kind of guy. I'd prefer to fill my holidays with sights and experiences and centuries old cultural stuff. But doing nothing and completely relaxing at Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa Dubai was a wonderful tonic after 4 weeks of Winter travel in the Nordic Region and Russia. We wanted somewhere that was a proper resort, without being outrageously expensive. We found it. I'd go back for sure.

As I did not see much of Dubai I guess it is not fare to judge it so harshly. Even house hunting was a nightmare for me as what is advertised on Dubizzle is not necessarily what you get? Depending on your budget you have no chance of getting value for money. Look at International City for e.g. miles away from your workplace Business Bay/Dubai and the accommodation I went to look at was terrible and transport is not accessible besides using taxis. This is just to name one. What amazes me are the Buildings! beautiful especially in the heart of Dubai, awesome! Dubai is an expensive city and if you thinking of relocating, make sure you can afford the good life.

Desert Safari. My local contact / driver in Dubai now is Ali. He works for Arabian Nights tours and travels. He was our tour guide in January. And he is just amazing, very kind, he had shown us around and was super fun. His knowledge about local markets is amazing and the best part he has a beautiful majestic, brand new SUV. We felt we had five star treatment right from the begining. This man was super super punctual. So if you are in Dubai you should try to get in touch with him. In fact you can simply take my name if you believe in haggling. :-)

Desert Safari, Aqua Venture, Dinner on the Ocean, Wild Wadi, Ferrari World, Sky Dive Dubai, Ski Dubai in Emirates Mall are some amazing places Dubai boasts of.

Avoid planning to drink at the venue. The prices will most definitely be high. Call the club/bar in advance and find out what their entry requirements are. Some require an good ratio of male:female and some will not allow you in without reserving a table which can run anywhere from $300 up.

How is tourism changing Dubai?

Dubai within the last decade has been transformed from a very nice city to become an international hub of tourism, this was reflected in the quality of new projects opened in the city and the standard of services provided. the welcoming nature is a tradition for Arabs and Dubai is trying hard to reflect that on the tourism experience you will get if you visit.

Every single person working in our resort would say good morning / good evening and would stop what they were doing to go out of their way to do so. The taxi driver taking us from Burj Khalifa to our hotel was keen for a chat and to share the video of New Year fireworks that he took with his phone.

Where should people go if they don't want to eat in a tourist trap?

The Souk Madinet has a few tourists walking around but you don't get that "tourist feel". This is down to the location being so beautiful and peaceful, everyone is concentrating on this and you get the authentic Dubai feel.

Avoid hotel restaurants if you can do without the Alcohol. Food quality and value is better. Alcohol is available in venues attached to hotels only and carry hefty services charges and premiums. Some local options provide a better more cultural experience and value for money. For example, go to Ravi Indian Restaurant if you like Indian. Go to Istanbul Flower on Sheikh Zayed (Next to Safestway) for best Turkish (Try Iskender). Al Hallab for best Lebanese food (Emirates and Dubai Mall or original on Al Garhoud Road). Another good Lebanese option is Al Safadi on Al-Rigga Road in Deira). For best steaks I recommend the JW Mariott in Deira. For good Asian go to Wagamama. For Persian Food go to Sadaf on Sheikh Zayed or in Deira.

The low crime rate. While I am certain that there are many influences that result in such a phenomenon, the facts remains that the individual Emirati respect people and their property. Littering, graffiti and mindless destruction of property was almost non-existent, as was anti-social or substance induced behaviours that seem to plague western cultures.

Dubai is already offering excellent facilities for the families. Just for the future to encourage family tourism, please control the accommodation prices not to increase, as this is the single most important factor in family tourism after security and safety.
