Visit Carcassonne: Your travel guide

Things to do in Carcassonne
Comtal Castle
Carcassone is the largest city in Europe with its old walls still intact, so from the moment you enter you’ll feel transported back to medieval times. Incredibly well preserved, Comtal Castle makes for an unmissable tour. Within its walls you’ll find a mix of romanesque and gothic architecture, while a walk along its ramparts will offer up lovely views of the city.
Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus
The Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus exudes a mystical air, its impressive stone pillars stretching high up to the heavens. Built in a fascinating mix of gothic and romanesque style, the church’s history dates back well over 1,000 years and its stained glass window is one of the oldest in France. Even if you’re not a church lover, you can’t miss a trip here.
Cité de Carcassonne
This ancient fortress looks so much like fairy-tale castle that you’ll find yourself searching for Prince Charming within its walls. In fact, rumour has it that the Cité de Carcassonne was the inspiration for the castle in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. You’ll love exploring its winding medieval alleys, imagining the lives of royalty and townsfolk from centuries past.

Very good
Do not go to La Bastide before April. Several interesting landmarks (including Churches!) are closed on Sunday and Monday. La Cité is always interesting and everything is open. Restaurants are good and not expensive. Try local specialties.

Stayed inside the city walls perfect location for the castle and ramparts. lovely hotel and staff. Menus in the restaurants were all the same and the staff in the ones we ate in were not very pleasant.

Recommendations for Carcassonne

The food is very similar everywhere in this southwest region of France, but just because there are tourists in Carcassonne doesn't mean there aren't good places to eat in the walled city. Do your research on the cuisine and wine before you arrive and choose a place that looks inviting, most likely you won't be disappointed.

A cidade amuralhada, fora e dentro, é um espetáculo à parte. Vale muito a pena ver e entrar para comer, observar, divertir-se.

Go early we went in at 9.00 am had petit dejanur 10'e for 2 very reasonable left at 11 Was filling up by then
