Lots of ski areas to choose from which was great. However the bus transport system to ski resorts was terrible. No queing system. People would shove in knocking less able or mannerly people over. Standing on overpacked busses for an hour is terrible whilst wearing ski boots and gear.

Chamonix is a fun, busy town with lots of shops and restaurants. Also an ice rink, bowling and swimming pool with water slide. But best of all is the skiing. There are free buses to take you to all the different ski areas which offer an amazing variety of ski slopes and stunning views.

Fabulous views in good weather, good skiing with various terrain and multiple resorts accessible with one ticket. Great town to visit.

Nive little town but very busy with skiers. Lots of restaurants and ski equipment stores. Amazing views and just a little more than an hout drive from Geneva Airport.

Nice location but the ski resorts are not linked so the ski domains are actually quite small. It takes a lot of effort (and walking) to ski!

Recommendations for Chamonix-Mont-Blanc

I can recommend a hike to Lac Noir and Lac Blanc. Also get a map with elevations to plan your trip - Chamonix is at 900m, and hikes can easily reach 2500m, so estimate your route. There's a number of places to rest and get some food (and sleep) up there though - you can stay in huts ("refuges") in mountains, just make sure you book them (you have to call, unfortunately) on high season/weekends (and bring your sleeping bag, sheets are not available).

Start early and dress in layers. It is very cold in the morning but can get warm in the afternoons. Also, bring a rain coat, wear sunscreen and sunglasses. Hiking poles while not necessary would provide added balance on occasionally difficult and rocky paths.

In summer, buy the Mont-Blanc Multipass which gives access to all the cable cars, ski lifts and mountain railways in the valley. Much of the best walking is mid-mountain.

Be among the first in the morning, or book your stay during working days and non holidays.

Some very serious mountain conditions for the experienced climbers. Amazing scenery!

Try the back streets for good, affordable meals - less crowded too.

Several outstanding high altitude lifts and great snow

A variety of interesting and delicious restaurants.

Breathtaking, inspiring, energising, refreshing
