Nîmes has done a fantastic job with the open spaces in the old town. The promenade leading to the old town from the railway station is surely one of the most pleasant introductions to a town that I have ever had from when arriving by the train. Quite apart from the fabulous Jardins de la Fontaine, there are a number of open spaces that have been extremely sympathetically developed, with sculptures and water features making the most of the natural spring that has its source at the Roman Augusteum next to the Temple of Diana. Everywhere there are nice spots to sit and watch the world go by.

We loved the architecture and layout of the city; it is beautiful and charming. The small squares and quaint shops and restaurants was very appealing.

Stay in the center town near Les Arenes or La maison Carré.Walk through Les Jardins de La Fontaine and wander around Les halles in the old streets.

La Piazzetta, delicious italian with all fresh ingredients! You may have to wait at the bar for a place, or better to reserve a table

There are signs everywhere in English and French in the monuments making them very accessible asked travelers...
