Why would you recommend Chania Town for food?

Chania could be a odd place for food: You might get trapped in a very tourist focused taverns, were food is well below average but not so the prices. On the other hand, some restaurants offer splendid fresh fish and greek specialities at reasonable prices. My favorite place is the "Fish Tavern Vassiliko" just in front of the old venetian shipyard at the eastern side of the harbour. Try the sword fish, it's delicius!

Back streets , places without pictures in the menu outside of the restaraunt. Vegeterians should go to a restaraunt called "AT STOCHI" / "STOCHI"

Relaxing beach, plenty of beds and umbrellas to rent (5 euros for 2 beds + umbrella). Sandy beach, albeit there are some large rocks in the sea, so watch out.

Visit Turk's Well, Mediterranean and other restaurants in Splantzia area. That's were the locals eat and we had three meals there and the food was fantastic and very cheap compared to the waterfront restaurants. Also the narrow strees are so interesting to look at.

Take a bus to the monastery at Agia Triada, visit the monastery, then walk through the mountain pass to another monastery at Gouverneto. From there you can walk down to the cave of John the Hermit, on to the abandoned Katholika monastery, and down to the sea. There is a seaside trail to Stavros, from where you can catch a bus back to Chania.
