Things to Do in Debrecen
Reformed Great Church of Debrecen
Accommodating up to 3,000 people, the Great Church lives up to its name as the largest Protestant church in Hungary. Construction of this architectural gem took about 19 years, which is a testament to its impressive size. Explore the church’s exhibition spaces, before scaling the 210 steps up to the west clock tower for panoramic city views.
St Anne's Cathedral
Elevated to cathedral rank by Pope John Paul II in 1993, the church was originally built without a single bell or tower, both of which were added in 1834. Once inside, gaze upon sacred frescoes and ornaments which adorn the holy walls. The oldest altarpiece represents Saint Joseph Calasanctius and stands between two shrines in an intricate Baroque-style frame.
Hortobágy Puszta National Park
Part of the Great Hungarian Plain, this enormous UNESCO-listed landscape is home to grazing cattle, numerous rare birds and a herd of more than 200 wild horses in the Pentezug reserve. Be sure to pay a visit to the iconic Nine-Arch Bridge and Karcag Old Windmill and Museum.
Főnix Hall
Főnix Hall is a multi-purpose arena in Debrecen, Hungary. Fonix Hall holds 8,500 people and opened in 2002. It hosted the 2002 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

There is too little points of attraction in this city, almost none. The main attraction is the Aquapark, so if you plan to stay and have fun in the pool all day it's perfect, otherwise there isn't much to see. The city looks sometimes like it's a ghost town.

Very Good
Debrecen is a very nice European city and the Aquaticum thermal and wellness hotel is a fantastic place to visit. Activities for young children are also favorable at the Aquaticum. Getting around Debrecen is not so hard for a visitor as the cab services are very efficient

Recommended in Debrecen

The Reformed Great Church or Great Reformed Church in Debrecen is located in the city of Debrecen. It stands in the city centre, between Kossuth square and Calvin square

Even the tourist oriented restaurants are fair. Debrecen is not a busy tourist target, so both the pricing and the selection of menus mainly set for the locals.

I fell in love with the winter fair and the bundle of decorations everywhere. One of the best decorated cities I've seen so far. asked travelers...

Why do you recommend Debrecen for food?

I had some local made food at the winter fair and I was blown away. Sweet or salty, it's all amazing.

Debrecen is not tgat big, so you can get around on foot pretty much everywhere. That's what i did.

The famous cathedral is just few steps from the hotel (at the opposite side of the road).

Traditional Hungarian Gipsy music.
