Things to Do in Lecce
Santa Croce Basilica
As façades go, Santa Croce Basilica possibly has the most original you’ll ever see. As well as the traditional designs you’d expect to see on a church, you’ll also spot dodos, dragons and sheep. The centrepiece of this Baroque masterpiece is a Romanesque rose window, flanked by a pair of Corinthian columns. The interior’s heavenly highlights include a stunning Baroque altar and paintings of religious depictions.
Roman Amphitheatre
Set foot inside this portal into the past and imagine what it might have felt like being surrounded by 25,000 riotous Roman spectators. Situated in the central piazza of Sant’Oronzo, recent excavations of these historic ruins have unearthed original Latin inscriptions and friezes. It’s free to stroll around the perimeter at any time, with tours running from April through to September.
Lecce Old Town
Nicknamed ‘The Baroque Lady’ for its dazzling displays of architecture from this period, the old town serves up a multitude of fine examples. Strolling through Via Umberto I, you’ll come upon the striking Basilica of Santa Croce, which boasts one of the most intricate Baroque façades in Italy. Equally worth a visit are Sant’Oronzo Square and gardens of Villa Comunale.
Lecce chinese and history museum
The Museum is divided into two sections: the first one concerning the chinese culture and the second one dealing with Natural History.

Very Good
A beautiful historic centre that is clean and well maintained. We came in March when there were few other tourists and that added to the enjoyment. Lecce us well serviced by trains and is a great base to explore southern Puglia.

Most beautiful of cities, very underrated and concealed. Lecce is in places dirty and loud, but authentic and full of life.

Lecce is a nice city of south Italy. All the buildings are very old. However, it has a nice architecture. The city sightseeing is amazing at night. The public gardens of the city are very beautiful.

At Arcu Te Pratu on Piazzetta Arco di Prato 9. We passed by one evening and a girl with guitar was playing in the outdoor dining. Since we had dinner already, we decided to return the next evening. We were caught in surprise when the owner/waiter started to sing out to us. It got many guests getting out of their dinner for a dance. It was entertaining. Simply great! And food was excellent and fairly priced too.

Lots of Wine bars with excellent selections of wines from Pulgia. Try the white Chardonnays.... as everyone drinks RED wine, and some of the whites are truly amazing.

lots of small boutique shops which you can buy unique style which is not seen in high street chain or big labels

Visit in septet or October, weather is good and not so many people But few buses running and no day trips

The Basilica de Santa Croce and the Baroque art

People always extremely kind, never intrusive.
